About a month ago we had alot of coverage relating to the defunct NASA satellite UARS that, ultimately, fell harmlessly to earth.
Now we have ROSAT, a much smaller German satellite heading for earth end of October/November.

The German Aerospace Center has warned that 30 'individual pieces weighing a total of 1.6 tons may reach the surface of the Earth'.

So this satellite is smaller but more of it is predicted to survive re-entry, some 1.8 tons!!
Thats more than UARS and the odds of it hitting someone is 1 in 2000.
Just to remind folks UARS was 1 in 3200.
Should we be worried or will this be another "all bark no bite" situation??

Isnt winding down a thread a MOD's Job?

Best way to make these threads vanish, is to say nothing, or comment on the others.

Rosat - one of many more to come.
