Public sector workers back strike over pension changes

www.bbc.co.uk

Up to 750,000 public sector workers will join a mass walkout later this month after members of a third union backed industrial action.

The PCS said its 290,000 members had to defend themselves against "attacks" on their pensions by the government.

The civil servants will strike on 30 June - the same days as hundreds of thousands of teachers and lecturers.

The government says current pension arrangements are unaffordable and strikes would be a "big mistake".

Here we go folks - the first in my series of posts on the beginning of the "Summer of Discontent" in the UK.

The time is ripe, and the situation perfect for one of the biggest protests seen in the UK for decades. Anon is stirring up the cyber war. The Unions here in the UK are starting to finally awaken from the slumber they have been in since Tony Blair sent them all to sleep. The rest of the world is rising up. It's all happening.

As I predicted some time ago, the 30th of June is going to be the first big salvo in the war against the corporatocracy. Previously, this war has only been fought by fringe protest groups like the 'Black Bloc', UK Uncut and others. Now, we're going to see Unions of all types, unprecedented worker solidarity and more aimed at staving off the corporatocracy take-over of our public institutions.

I covered the March protests by the TUC in London on ATS with a special report - in conjunction with LarryLove. I will hopefully be covering any direct action and events that unfold on the 30th of June.

Just imagine.... no schooling. Reduced hospital coverage. Reduced police coverage. Air traffic control on reduced capacity. Universities on shutdown. It's going to be epic! And this is just the first salvo. A MASSIVE general strike is being organised for the Autumn - which will dwarf anything happening this month.

Let's stop the Tories enforcing their corporate rules upon us all!!!!

The Revenant.

Good luck, Rev, give 'em hell.
If only workers could organize half as well in the States...well, nothing would happen because they will soon have no rights anyway.

Thanks man, it should be interesting indeed. Especially if the Euro currency collapses because of the implications of the Greek default. If the Greek banks go down, so do the UK banks.

If that happens - let the revolution begin!

Workers will organise eventually in the states - you'll see....

The Rev.
