Crazy Congressman on CNN - Marijuana causes Mental Illness

According to Former Oklahoma Congressman, Ernest Istook, whatever little benefits offered by Marijuana are outweighed by its side effects. "Marijuana causes mental illness, impairs your ability to think, impairs your memory. Plus the fact, that Marijuana smoke contains far more carcinogens in it compared to Tobacco" says Ernest.

Idiots on parade. I personally know at least a dozen people who benefit from cannabis in ways no prescription drug can help. Funny how people who are "Anti Marijuana" throw out baseless facts and never offer evidence. When presented with studies, evidence and fact they throw it out the window claiming it's "Pro drug propaganda".

Know nothing Congressman pretending to be some kind of authority on something he knows little to nothing about spreading more propaganda myths to demonize a plant while boosting the profits of those that pad his campaign coffers. Same old doo doo.

Everything he said is just completely untrue. These people are all on the same page, legalization is a threat to their control of healthcare. If they really cared about OUR health, they would remove the fluoride in water, aspartame in foods, HFCS, the list goes on & on.... so yeah, they don't "care" about our health at all.

I think the congressman is on too many
prescription drugs! What an idiotic
thing to say.

I have taken care of cancer patients
that have received a lot of benefit
from marijuana - this dude didn't
do his homework.

Drink your fluoride, smoke your cigarettes, get your daily dose of radiation, and inhale some plutonium!

Only in Capitalist America!

Well, didn't take me long to see that lobbyists have their hands in this scumbag's pockets. Here's a snippet of his top aide's 2008 charge of taking illegal bribes.

My bet would be that he's connected to the pharmaceutical industry....hmmm just a hunch.

A one-time top aide to former Oklahoma Rep. Ernest Istook pleaded guilty Monday to a conspiracy to defraud the House as part of the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal. John Albaugh admitted in federal court in Washington that he accepted meals and sports and concert tickets, along with other perks, from lobbyists in exchange for official favors... Referred to as "Representative 4" in court documents, Istook used the lobbyist's skybox tickets for concerts. He later donated the campaign money to charity and paid for the seats... Istook was among 33 lawmakers who accepted Abramoff-related money and wrote letters urging the Bush administration to reject a casino proposal that Abramoff's clients opposed. He has said the letter was consistent with his position against gambling and unrelated to the campaign contributions.

WOW! Ya know, about the only study I have ever read on the ganj that was negative involved some memory problems with adolescent use. But I would still rather see a kid, or anyone for that matter smoke if it helps than use all the pharmo drugs that the majority of the population is now on.

Sounds like someone is in the pockets of big pharma. What a moron this congressman is. He's comparing apples to oranges. I have seen the adverse effects of pill addiction hitting a wider scale of people and with more intensity than any of the pot smokers I have known. And don't even get me started on how people act when they are drinking. Bottom line...they are afraid of the money they would lose legalizing it. Since when does our government care about us consuming harmful subsances?

Just out of balance, there are many young kids in the UK in rehab clinics who have cannabis related mental issue problems. The problem is that, with there being no regulation , kids can get hold of the strongest weed, when their brains are not yet fully grown and capable of dealing with the strong effects.

Dont get me wrong Im not defending Big Pharma, I believe the drug should be regulated so that under 18's cant get hold of it and people can choose the strength. Amsterdam being a great example. It's so in your face there that it's not really anti establishment to smoke it, which takes away the stigma of doing something "naughty" that young kids do it for.

It seems a sensible debate on Cannabis is almost impossible in the US or UK, the propaganda has been so powerful and causes a knee jerk reaction from the media whenever it's discussed.

If mary causes mental illness, then I'm f*ing retarded & my pill addicted aunt is totally sane, even when she chugs a bottle of vodka with her Xanax.

I was addicted to pain pills as well as alcohol and they both nearly killed me. The SSRI anti depressants as well as the anti anxiety meds I was prescribed had many damaging effects as well. To compare those poisons to marijuana is just ABSURD.

I've never understood why pot is illegal, yet the state sanctions alcohol, tobacco and caffeine.

The smartest thing the government could do is legalize marijuana, then charge a tax on it.
Budget problems solved!
