Look at the F-16, F-18, and F-22 for instance. There has only been one F-18 lost in combat I've ever heard of, and the F-16 is frankly still superior to most other countries fighters, yet we continued to develop the F-22. Now that it is deployed, we continue to develop even more sophisticated aircraft. The "War on Terror" is exactly what justifies this expenditure. Get it now?

You dont read the papers much do you? Our YOUNGEST F-16s are 10 years old. The majority of the fleet is old enough to drink. The original design was for a service life of 4,000 hours. Of the 20 plus F-16s in my unit, the LOWEST one is over 5,000 hours...they are getting harder and more expensive to maintain The F-22, has had its numbers CUT. We arent going to get as many as we originally wanted.

Meanwhile, China and Russia, are working at building fighters a lot harder than we are, and the jets they are building, are more than a match for the F-22...let alone the F-16 and F-18.

We dont NEED the War on Terror to justify spending the money on fighters. Reality dictates that we do.
