I heard this on the radio yesterday and it kind of took me back a little.

There are 38 numbers on an American roulette wheel and there are 37 numbers of a French roulette wheel, both wheels add up to 666
www.bookmakersinc.co.uk...
www.omg-facts.com... Is this by chance or is it because money and gambling is evil. I personally hate gambling and I don't even play the lottery. Although I have dabbled in shares which is just as bad

Many people of course get addicted to gambling and it wrecks many lives.

That's just silly superstition. Gambling doesn't hurt anybody so I don't see how it can be evil. It can become a bad habit and if not done in moderation it can become damaging to ones finances...but evil? No way. I don't personally gamble myself because I'm terrible at it, I found that out a long time ago and stayed away from it. Besides, there is debate whether 666 is the correct number or not in the bible. In a book I read by a college professor, who teaches about the New Testament, he states that it was actually supposed to be 616. Either way, 666 or 616, they both stand for a name of a Roman emperor, Nero.

I could completely blow your mind with all the things that just happen to reflect 666.

But it might not necessarily be evil. I think it is a marker for what and how this realm is designed and made.

Like the swastika, people made it evil.

How about this then, the same thing can happen when you add up a deck of cards
www.fluther.com...

Add the numbers in a deck of cards

1+2+3…+10=55 (Ace as 1)

add each suit

55+55+55+55=220

220×3 = 660 (3 because there are 3 Non Number cards: 1.Jack 2.Queen 3.King)

then

660+ 4 = 664 (4 for 4 suits)

664 + 2 = 666 (2 for 2 colors, Red/Black)

666

I know it is JUST a coincidence and you can probably get 666 using some other way/s.
(I’m the LAST person who’d believe these things…)

I would not go as far to say as that roulette is the work of the devil but I do agree that gambling can be seen as sinful due to the effects it has on people and to the communities it houses.

"A legend tells François Blanc supposedly bargained with the devil to obtain the secrets of roulette. The legend is based on the fact that the sum of all the numbers on the roulette wheel (from 1 to 36) is 666, which is the "Number of the Beast". en.wikipedia.org...

just because it contains 666 does not make it evil here is an example.

"In Kabbalistic Judaism the number 666 represents the creation and perfection of the world. The world was created in 6 days, and there are 6 cardinal directions (North, South, East, West, Up, Down). 6 is also the numerical value of one of the letters of God's name." en.wikipedia.org...

I work at a casino and I have never seen any devilish activity coming from the spinning wheel other than people losing money.

I take your point but there is nothing the devil (if he is real) likes more than human suffering. Gambling can cause great human suffering and has ruined may lives. It can bring out the worst in people ,namely greed .

Evil? No ... it's just a number - and it's about as evil as my friend who's cellphone has the number 666 in it. Gambling in casinos is probably stupid unless you can count cards and get away with it!

As far as I know gambling was first decreed as being evil because things like dice were first used as a form of divination similar to tarot and things like that

The 666 thing is interesting, I never realised that !

My dad's old number was 666, you can imagine how amazed, surprised and such we were. That was pretty awesome.

I dunno, a lot of the 666 stuff seems like superstition and calling something evil for the sake of it. As mentioned, the swastika was a religious symbol and the Nazi Party were a group who wanted peace and equality but after Hitler abused those two things, now we associate swastikas with nazis and claim both as inherently evil.

Out of sight, out of mind eh? You obviously have a limited perception.

I think those who are addicted to gambling would be dissagreeing with you, not to mention their family, friends and colleagues.

How many family members have had a bad xmas because their parent has lost all the money on a horse or a hand of cards? How many bills have gone unpaid because the fruit machine never paid that winning jackpot? I recently had a friend tell me about his brother who was given the collection for a work colleagues leaving present. He put it all in a fruit machine and then said he lost it while travelling on a bus. So lots of unhappy workers, a person leaving who won't get a nice gift and a fool who is compelled to lie and will probably never be trusted again by those involved. Not good. And you say noboby gets hurt?

Gambling is a mugs game and most people never come out on top, yet it is still legal. It is compulsive for some and that is what helps fuel this industry of arranged theft.

The fact that the numbers on a roulette wheel add up to 666 isn't surprising.

DON'T DO IT!

True, I was installing Point of Sale software in a casino shop a few years back. We could only start after 1am as that was the time they closed - it amazed and disgusted me to see how many toddlers and children would be roaming around the corridors simply because their parents were on the main floor gambling their school fees away.
I don't blame the casinos or gambling though - just as I don't blame the gun when it is used to kill someone.

Very interesting but suspect in my eyes. I never really bought into the whole numbers thing and, furthermore hasn't it been proven, or debated at least at least to point of, if not vindication than very high probability) that 666 is not the number of the beast" as everyone says it is, and that in fact it is 616? A mistake due to mistranslation errors, which now after the bastardizing of the original culprit for so long making the revelation of this moot or almost impossible to be accepted by the spoon fed masses.

While it makes for a cool party trick take it from one who has like most of us seen friends and family debilitated by horrible things, Gambling destroys lives because it is a disease much like crack, heroin, alcohol, coc aine etc. not because a roulette wheel or a deck of cards adds up to a debatable number.

Nonetheless it is a cool thing

Here's a quote from the movie Pi:
"You want to find the number 216 in the world? You will be able to find it everywhere!
216 steps from your street corner to your front door.
216 seconds you spend riding on the elevator.
When your mind becomes obsessed with anything, you will filter everything else out and find that thing everywhere. 300, 2400, 50, 22, whatever.
You've chosen 216 and you will find it everywhere in nature.
edit on 20/1/11 by TrowaBarton because: Inccorect sentence structure, although I'm sure there is more

edit on 20/1/11 by TrowaBarton because: To late, tired. Senetence structure was absurd asnd probably stil is . sorry
