They are pandering to the sheeple who have not woken up yet to the bigger picture of what is really going on. The more intelligent members of the human race will laugh this off as a joke. As far as i am concerned real press freedom will be the day they lift D notices (reporting restrictions on the grounds of national security here in the UK) and they also release all the documents relating to the UFO prescence and not just some old UFO reports like the UK, France and some other countries have done so. Once i see disclourse take place then i will be convinced we really do have press freedoms to an extent anyway.

The Newseum will host the first two days of events, which will engage a broad array of media professionals, students, and citizen reporters on themes that address the status of new media and internet freedom, and challenges and opportunities faced by media in our rapidly changing world.

The State Department looks forward to working with UNESCO and the U.S. executive committee spearheaded by the Center for International Media Assistance at the National Endowment for Democracy, IREX, and the United Nations Foundation and the many civil society organizations they have brought together in support of the organization of events unfolding in Washington.

For further information regarding World Press Freedom Day Events for program content, please visit the World Press Freedom Facebook page www.connect.connect.facebook.com...

My, my my .......

The "Newseum" ...... could there possibly be a more primed target for reading as "Nauseum"?

US State Department.....
UNESCO....

"U.S. executive committee:"
- Center for International Media Assistance at the National Endowment for Democracy,
- IREX,
- United Nations Foundation...
- and the many civil society organizations they have brought together....."

I am tempted to do a little 'freedom' of the press piece on this initiative and the brain trust bringing this Orwelian exercise to us....

The biggest thrill will be standing amongst the self-satisfied technocrats and literati at their gala fish and goose suaree with a sign that reads "I nominate Assange!"

PS - Any one have any questions about 'facebook' and privacy?

What a riot.

It would be funny if assange won the UNESCO Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize though.

Highlighting the many events surrounding the celebration will be the awarding of the UNESCO Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize at the National Press Club on May 3rd. This prize, determined by an independent jury of international journalists, honors a person, organization or institution that has notably contributed to the defense and/or promotion of press freedom, especially where risks have been undertaken.

BTW, for a continued chuckle, take a look at the comments for the announcement on Facebook. Hilarious.

Joe Lieberman should be investigated for espionage for all of his contacts and unequivocal support of Israel.

There is a very good chance his loyalties do not favor the U.S. first and foremost.

For the US to suggest a freedom day is a mockery...and a slap in the face to US citizens! Utterly laughable!

That is utterly hilarious.

Who's sponsoring the main event? FOX Network?

Another oddity in that Obama and Company are trying to get rid of FoxNews, Talk Radio and the Internet or control it right now. Howard Dean actually called for them to be shut down speaking as the Lefts mouthpiece.

When will people figure out the Right and the Left are the same? Both sides want to silence the other and this Free Speech and Free Press stuff is a scam.

Don't forget that Obama and his minion Napolitano want us to report suspicious activities!

I see the riots of the 60's returning any time now as the two sides try to control each other. The Left says Free Press, but only if its a Left Wing Free Press. The Right says Free Press but shut up the Left. Amazing.

The United States is pleased to announce that it will host UNESCO’s World Press Freedom Day event in 2011, from May 1 - May 3 in Washington, D.C. UNESCO is the only UN agency with the mandate to promote freedom of expression and its corollary, freedom of the press.
[...]
We [the United States] mark events such as World Press Freedom Day in the context of our enduring commitment to support and expand press freedom and the free flow of information in this digital age.

I laughed my arse off when I read the headline, this is a joke right?? The irony is simply grotesque.

This just goes so wonderfully with the announcement by Sen Joe Lieberman that media outlets should be probed over the WikiLeaks deal...

Oh it's all so ridiculous that one HAS to laugh.

Oh I cracked up just then. Hopefully the catering goes to the homeless when no one shows up at the World Press Freedom day gathering.

I agree this is meant for those not yet questioning the MSM and associates, my hope though is that this group is getting smaller by the minute.

Heh as someone on the Facebook page comments..."Maybe Americans do understand Irony after all".

The last few weeks have been like some pan-global three ring circus and they've just sent in the clowns... onward to the grand final act of the evening in the center ring!

Let's celebrate the human stupidities, the stupidities of all nations, my country and his gang of murderers, cowards, rapists and thieves. Let's celebrate what is vanity, prejudice, malice, lies and our television. Let's sing the national anthem and everything will be fine.

I hope the 'World' part actually means "Other Countries too" rather than the usual way the US will bandy the word about.

"World Series Baseball" - No other countries invited.
"World Champions" = "National Champions" - No other countries invited.

So "World Press Freedom Day" could just amount to American journalists being told what to say. No other countries invited.

Perhaps, while they are at it, they could explain to FAUX Noose that there are, in fact, other countries in the world, and no, they aren't all Muslims, and no, they are not all terrorists or Nazis, and no, they haven't imploded due to socialism.

What a joke.

US media is more controlled than the former USSR ever was.

The sick bastards all worship the devil.

And the devil requires silence.
