Ok, all joking and drama aside, as someone who has spent a number of years in a region wedged between these two states, I feel that I am supremely
qualified to address this discrepancy of state names. The truth of the matter is that both states were once part of the same "region" known as
Kansas. The actual borders of this region were somewhat nebulous and thus, when missouri was established as a territory and "indian territory" was
defined, the region found that it was split with people in both regions claiming that they lived in "Kansas". When both applied to be recognized at
Territories under the name Kansas, there was a court battle over the use of the name. Those in the southern region referred to their region as 'our
Kansas not yours". when they lost, they were stopped mid-chant and thus, "Our Kans-awwww!" was born.
