Recall that people claiming to be Amiri have uploaded at least two videos to YouTube giving alleged first-person accounts of his ordeal. (Amiri has yet to make a public appearance, though once he arrives in Tehran, he’s expected to, perhaps as soon as Thursday.)

It appears that this guy is going back to Iran as a CIA asset. I had suspected this as soon as the news hit that he wanted to go back to Iran and all of this publicity between him and the White House is all planned and done intentionally. Surely, the Iranians can see this. I wonder what tricks are up the sleeves with our intelligence agencies in regards to this fiasco?

Was then entire incident staged and of so, to what avail? It wouldn't seem that the obvious could really be such a great plan, making the reals motives, not so obvious. Any input from other members about what could be going on here?

I don't see how getting kidnapped, drugged and tortured by the CIA and Israeli agents makes you a liar. Oh, well, other than it was the CIA, so "you're really not supposed to know".
And considering they tried to get him to make up some stuff about Iran to get us into another war, even though this guy had absolutely no information on anything, is simply criminal.
Conspiring with Israeli agents to start a war that would kill millions is pure evil.

I am having doubts that he was kidnapped in the first place, though if he was, he was probably paid-off to play along with whatever scheme they have up their sleeves.

What probably happened, is that the guy defected, then was approached by the CIA/Mossad to become an asset for a large sum of money (or other reasons). The US/Israeli governments make it look as if he was kidnapped, while publicly denying it, of course. They may have even secretly allowed Iranian intelligence to discover that he was kidnapped. Then they send him back to Iran as an asset of the CIA/Mossad.

Either way, it appears as if he is now working with the CIA/Mossad.
