An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale was felt along the West Rand and parts of Johannesburg on Monday afternoon, the Council for Geosciences said.
The quake, recorded just before 2pm, was relatively stronger than those usually measured along the mining belt, seismologist Ian Saunders said.
The council recently said it was conducting a study of quakes along the Johannesburg and far West Rand mining area, many of which are attributed to mining activities or abandoned mines.
