it is all smoke and mirrors.
were anyone really wanting to fix the issue, they wouldn't be mouthing in the press. instead, they would quietly fly over the palace of Kim Jung Il and drop a few bombs on it.
Quick, surgical, clean...and the war is over.
The pomp and circumstance is a dog and pony show for the masses.
North Korea threatened on Monday to fire at South Korean equipment if it is set up at their heavily armed border to broadcast anti-Pyongyang messages, and vowed to take stronger measures if Seoul escalated tensions.
The warnings came in a statement from a military commander carried by the North's KCNA news agency.
South Korea said on Monday it would resume loudspeaker broadcasts at the border that had been suspended for six years, as part of its punishment toward the North for the sinking of one of its navy ships
South Korea's defense chief said Monday his military will launch its own anti-proliferation exercise and resume psychological warfare against North Korea, as parts of its initial military measures to punish Pyongyang for a deadly torpedo attack on a South Korean warship in March.
In less than two hours after the South's announcement on resuming psychological warfare, the North's military warned it will "shoot down" loudspeakers if Seoul sets them up to restart such broadcasts. South Korea halted psychological warfare against the North in 2004, when their ties warmed.
Chang Kwang-il, Seoul's deputy defense minister, said the South was set to resume anti-Pyongyang broadcasts along their heavily armed border later in the day.
After talks in China, Hillary Clinton urged countries in the region to contain "the highly precarious situation created by North Korea".
Earlier, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak froze trade with Pyongyang, vowing to punish those who carried out the attack, which killed 46 sailors.
North Korea says it will retaliate.
The South's new measures included resuming "psychological warfare" against North Korea, which was stopped in 2004. The resumption prompted an angry response from Pyongyang.

Good luck with Kim's aerial defences.........
Chances are that your " Quick, surgical, clean" operation would turn into an international incident of ugly proportions and Kim would laugh his *ss off in China.

Wow we aren't even at war yet and you people are already setting of nukes!!! Amazing the arm chair generals. It is very interesting when the press release was released by the Whitehouse. But some on here have it that North Korea, Iran and China are hiding under the oil slick waiting to march the streets of New Orleans!!! Just let history play out people, no matter what I can bet that no one on here will have the final say in what the Whitehouse does.

I really don't think WW 3 is going to come out of this. All the nuclear powers know that even a limited exchange would cause huge losses on each side and could possibly be devastating depending on where the strikes were targeted. Imagine what half a dozen nukes would do to America's Breadbasket.Or, how about 6 Chinese cities? With their population concentration in the cities, death tolls would be in the hundreds of millions very quickly. If one country hits another that hard, there will be no limited exchange, it will be all out, with nowhere left to hide. So, HOPEFULLY, the military is not that stupid.
China urges calm

* U.S. urges China to pressure the North, backs South
* North Korea say it will shoot at South's equipment (Recasts, adds China comments)
South Korea on Monday announced steps to tighten the vice on the North's already stumbling economy in punishment for sinking one of its navy ships, with both sides stepping up their war-like rhetoric.
The United States, which backs Seoul, warned that the situation was "highly precarious".
China, the North's only major ally, urged calm.

problem is that there are so many possible ww3 scenarios floating around right now that i think its more likely ww3 will happen... lines have been drawn, alliances have been formed, people have taken sides.. the world economy is going to crash this summer... and either before or after it does, a spark somwhere will flicker and world war 3 will occur... be it in the mid east, in korea, on the pakistani-indian border (they just had a fatal clash and are still shooting at each other right now www.reuters.com... ) nato is surrounding russia, russia feels threatened, you have the arctic and all its resources opening up which will and is causeing a resource race... major scale armed conflict is inevitable...
