Quick, surgical, clean...and the war is over.

The pomp and circumstance is a dog and pony show for the masses.

Good luck with Kim's aerial defences.........

Chances are that your " Quick, surgical, clean" operation would turn into an international incident of ugly proportions and Kim would laugh his *ss off in China.

KOREA-NORTH/WARNING (URGENT)

North Korea threatened on Monday to fire at South Korean equipment if it is set up at their heavily armed border to broadcast anti-Pyongyang messages, and vowed to take stronger measures if Seoul escalated tensions.

The warnings came in a statement from a military commander carried by the North's KCNA news agency.

South Korea said on Monday it would resume loudspeaker broadcasts at the border that had been suspended for six years, as part of its punishment toward the North for the sinking of one of its navy ships

I have seen a couple of other posts that say this so this is repeat:
Kim, North Korea's Nutcase in chief, wants a fight with the US in order to forceablity unite the south.
Kim thinks that if he fights with the US that China will respond with aid. LIke China did in the 1950's. The worse part about the whole thing is that his successor is more hardcore than he is.

One thing to remember, the Kim family have told the North Korean people that they are Gods. Gods can do no wrong.

Finally Since Kim has nuclear weapons, I would not be surprised if he attempts to fire off those weapons. and I suspect that he would fire those weapons at US warships.

Here are some more news links related to the situation that is unfolding in Korean peninsula:

S. Korea to launch anti-North military drills, broadcasts

South Korea's defense chief said Monday his military will launch its own anti-proliferation exercise and resume psychological warfare against North Korea, as parts of its initial military measures to punish Pyongyang for a deadly torpedo attack on a South Korean warship in March.

In less than two hours after the South's announcement on resuming psychological warfare, the North's military warned it will "shoot down" loudspeakers if Seoul sets them up to restart such broadcasts. South Korea halted psychological warfare against the North in 2004, when their ties warmed.

Chang Kwang-il, Seoul's deputy defense minister, said the South was set to resume anti-Pyongyang broadcasts along their heavily armed border later in the day.

What is it with people like you? When has the united states ever been under attack from another country? the false flags that have been used to attack other countries have so many holes in them a fourth grader could see through them. For Gods sake, have you not got enough on your plate. the banks have ripped everyone off big time and instead of locking them up for the criminals they are you and your childrens children will pay them for doing it. On top of that you have the massive oil spill. Why O why dont you use your brain instead of always your brawn. So many times I have heard that Obama who promised so much to the american people has gone back on so many of his promises instead of a better life you now have chaos. No one is out to get you, no other countries are jealous of you, seems the only people you should be worried about are the people pulling your strings and you dont have to even leave your country to do that.!

Wow we aren't even at war yet and you people are already setting of nukes!!! Amazing the arm chair generals. It is very interesting when the press release was released by the Whitehouse. But some on here have it that North Korea, Iran and China are hiding under the oil slick waiting to march the streets of New Orleans!!! Just let history play out people, no matter what I can bet that no one on here will have the final say in what the Whitehouse does.

US urges action to contain 'precarious' Korea situation

After talks in China, Hillary Clinton urged countries in the region to contain "the highly precarious situation created by North Korea".

Earlier, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak froze trade with Pyongyang, vowing to punish those who carried out the attack, which killed 46 sailors.

North Korea says it will retaliate.

The South's new measures included resuming "psychological warfare" against North Korea, which was stopped in 2004. The resumption prompted an angry response from Pyongyang.

China and the US are not going to war. Just putting that out there. The reasons are obvious.

Now for arguments sake only.... The Chinese military is huge, but for now lacks logistical capability to exploit that size. A prolonged conflict with China excluding the use of nuclear weapons would result in its massive ground force starving, and very little actual ground to ground combat. The US and Allies would just avoid direct confrontation while wearing the Chinese down through attrition and destruction of C&C.

This entire prospect is unrealistic. It would involve aspects of warfare that have never been seen before. Probably EMP attacks(scary), and Submarines blowing up a lot of #. Aircraft Carriers seem to be very, very vulnerable to an enemy naval fleet with an effective attack sub element. In the end, both sides would in a best case scenario, IMO, be brought back to a preindustrial level of technology(along with the rest of the world), and there would be a massive die off as a result. Yes, i'm talking about EMP weapons again. We all know what the worst case scenario is.

War with North Korea is possible only if NK -really- tries to make it happen. If North Korea staged a "blitz" type assault on the South and caught SK/US forces off guard, they could almost definitely take Seoul and sue for peace, which is reportedly their "plan". People need to understand that they have enough artillery fixed on the DMZ to blow the entire defensive zone into one huge crater. Followed with an Assault of a hundred thousand North Koreans, there would be no time to respond before NK was already in Seoul as an occupying force.

If they did this, who knows what happens next. It's possible China would actually invade the North themselves, and replace the regime. I honestly dont see anything happening from this. Just a bunch of saber rattling, and possibly some "do nothing" agreement until the next stupid incident that will result in the same.

I thought the theory someone stated earlier in the thread about distracting the U.S. away from Iran was plausible. Maybe China staged this "false flag"? It certainly does not make much sense for the US to do it. There is no profit to be gained from North Korea. If the U.S. was looking to stage an attack, dont you think it would involve a more profitable and realistic killing field?

Last but not least, I am pretty sure about half of these "AMERICA F()*K YEAH" posters are trolling to get a rise out of people. Try not to make it such an easy thing to do.

So far DPRK has specifically responded to only one of the actions that South Korea has said that it would take against NK. This action proposed by SK is the resumption of psychological warfare against NK. NK has said that it would destroy any propaganda tower that SK establishes on the border for psychological warfare. Now SK would most likely resume anti Kim Jong Il propaganda soon. There is a likelihood that NK's bluff would be called at this juncture.

I think that stopping short of declaring a war against DPRK, this is one of the most provocative moves taken by South Korea against DPRK. If propaganda resumes, it would most likely target Kim Jong Il and his dynasty.

Yes, you are right, lets not discuss the potential for war, the potential for peace.

Infact, let's not discuss anything.

Should we quit our membership of this site as there is no point in discussing anything?

I really don't think WW 3 is going to come out of this. All the nuclear powers know that even a limited exchange would cause huge losses on each side and could possibly be devastating depending on where the strikes were targeted. Imagine what half a dozen nukes would do to America's Breadbasket.Or, how about 6 Chinese cities? With their population concentration in the cities, death tolls would be in the hundreds of millions very quickly. If one country hits another that hard, there will be no limited exchange, it will be all out, with nowhere left to hide. So, HOPEFULLY, the military is not that stupid.

I agree with you partially, most warmongering types jump the gun and assume all of the big players are blood thirsty and will jump at the first opportunity to cause devastation. It is simply not true, nobody truely wins a war, there are losses on every side.

That being said, the fact that conflicts are big business to the US and a source of financial gain aswell as political gain cannot be denied.

Conflicts will remain conventional in most cases, measured responses being the most logical form of aggressing or defending.

However, tactical nukes are filtering down to fit into this 'measured response' category.

"We could have nuked your city, but we chose instead to use this small nuke on a 'military target' of yours" It still gives them a little political credit by showing some refrain, though not much.

Two Koreas snarl at each other, tensions rise

China urges calm

* Markets nervous but recover a bit after Lee's speech

* U.S. urges China to pressure the North, backs South

* North Korea say it will shoot at South's equipment (Recasts, adds China comments)

South Korea on Monday announced steps to tighten the vice on the North's already stumbling economy in punishment for sinking one of its navy ships, with both sides stepping up their war-like rhetoric.

The United States, which backs Seoul, warned that the situation was "highly precarious".

China, the North's only major ally, urged calm.

problem is that there are so many possible ww3 scenarios floating around right now that i think its more likely ww3 will happen... lines have been drawn, alliances have been formed, people have taken sides.. the world economy is going to crash this summer... and either before or after it does, a spark somwhere will flicker and world war 3 will occur... be it in the mid east, in korea, on the pakistani-indian border (they just had a fatal clash and are still shooting at each other right now www.reuters.com... ) nato is surrounding russia, russia feels threatened, you have the arctic and all its resources opening up which will and is causeing a resource race... major scale armed conflict is inevitable...

I totally agree with you, it is inevitable. The last century has seen the chess pieces move into place. The struggle for power can only result in one conclusion. I just hope that somehow civilian casualties are minimised and we can continue to discuss the issues of the day in the future.

Peace.
