Was Microsoft trying to flex some muscles and scare future people from leaking sensitive documents, or was Microsoft's compliant baseless and false?

I think they were flexing their muscles and trying to scare future leakers to think twice before sharing leaked information. I could be wrong, but that's what big corporations like Microsoft do.

Yes. The article says that Cryptome site is back up and that Microsoft will no longer pursue Cryptome in taking the articles down.
