Research the Nuremberg woodcut, it depicts an aerial battle that was said to take place over Nuremberg Germany in the 1560s. There is also Ezekiel's wheel within a wheel. Alexander the great saw two flying objects that were descried as shields.

Even if we disregard the art as artistic representation there are still lot's of written accounts about strange objects in the sky that date back a long way. Some people make the claim that these are comets or meteors but comets were well known to the ancients (they were considered bringers of doom) so it's unlikely what they report in the sky is something as simple as that.

Aliens or not human history is bound to the sky and what lies therein and there have always been unexplained things in the heavens.
