I first of all want to thank the staff for creating this forum, because this topic I think is very important to America's future and our lower
neighbors.
Without a doubt Drug Wars cause the most violence on our southern border in our cities and in other countries like Mexico and Columbia. The Drug Lords
of our southern neighbors farm and produce the drugs and smuggle them across our borders to make outstanding profits on the black market. This causes
the governments of such countries to become corrupt and danger lurks around every corner for whoever tries to stand up to the drug lords. However,
there is a way to end this violence without even firing a shot.
Legalize the illicit substances. Perhaps the harder substances like coc aine, heroin, should be prescribed and sold at pharmacies but marijuana
could be available at local liquor stores. Not only would this stimulate the economy but this would be a devastating blow to the Drug Lords of Mexico
and South America. There would be no need for them to smuggle the goods across the border since it would be legal in the United States, probably at a
competing price too. All these drugs have been legal in the United States before and probably without a age limit too. Does that mean we should not
apply an age limit? No, it should be whatever alcohols age limit is.
The problem with Drug Addiction is that it is a self inflicted disease and should be treated as such. The harder drugs are more addicting and should
be prescribed by doctors. The Government should not punish those who have a disease, that would be like throwing obese people in jail. If legalized
these drugs would be much safer, possibly cheaper, and eliminate many of our border violence problems and violence in other countries as well.
This is just a thought though, what does everyone else think?
