Ok, well I have been out sick with the H1N1 over the past few days and have watched a lot of CNN unfortunetly.

Of course they only thing being covered at the moment is the Fort Hood incident and I really did enjoy the memorial this morning. It was well done, it was honorable and respectfull.

However, I have some quams with the way the media is portraying things. It seems they have raised the "fear" level to orange.

It seems every year at this time there is some sort of event which again allows the media to scream and moan about terrorism and how we aren't doing enough to protect ourselves from "extremists".

This is an attack on our psyche. It is designed to promote more of "give up you freedoms for security" type of ideology. It's unfortunate and I for one am pretty upset that they would use such a tragic accent to re-open a debate which as of now is akin to beating a dead horse.

I was wondering what do other members of ATS see in the recent reportings and perhaps it's just me being paranoid, but I think this is more fear propaganda. Not to say this event was orchestrated or anything, although I am sure some think so, it's more of an opportunity for them.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are you're 100% accurate and there is a drive to raise fear levels in The People. I have refused to be drawn into it this time and have read the bare bones of the story. I will not be exhorted to be afraid anymore.

And then again, I continue to come to ATS to ponder upon other things . . . hmm.

As we all do my friend
.

In any case I am worried that this event might lead to quicker dissolve of your consitutional rights and more "extreme" forms of "security".

The only thing worse than being sick is being sick and having to watch Mainstream news, so get well

I agree fully with your post. There's no way to be 100% safe in this world and there's only so much power that can be given to the government to protect you from terrorists before the government becomes the terrorist. Eventually we will trade any phantoms of freedom we had left for more and more security we thought we needed.

TPTB are opportunistic, they will take any event and any tragedy and beat it into your head that you need them to keep the boogeyman away and yet no one realizes that the event itself means those security measures before that they told you were so necessary failed miserably.

Sorry you have been sick Keeper. Get well soon. I agree with the above statement and have no doubt that your op about TPTB fear peddling and planning to use it any way they can to step more on our civil liberties.
They even knew about this guy.

My thought is the whole thing is not even newsworthy in global scheme of things. 13 people dead ye' so what Pakistan has 24 dead and 100 wounded today, Palestine has 1100+ dead(in 2-3 weeks), Tibet has 300+ dead (in 2-3 weeks), India has 100+ dead in a day, Iraq has 250+ dead in a day and the list goes on....Let me say this, America welcome to the "REAL WORLD".

13 is not even a drop in ocean of bodies that are killed in a day...it's a miniscule tiny statistic......and news sources are overdramatising and sensationalising the whole thing for ratings.pfftt 13 dead and over 130 threads (guesstimate) on ATS alone on this subject lol...it's ironically amusing.
