Does swine flu only kill you if it mutates? Some people say just treat it like a normal flu, why the big hype if it isnt that serious?

Swine flu panic is spreading across Cape Town with several schools emptying, doctors inundated with calls, and pathology laboratories buckling under the weight of specimens waiting to be tested.

The path labs are being swamped by all the unnecessary tests - so that the genuinely urgent tests are being delayed.

This knock-on effect can have serious consequences with essential diagnoses of swine flu and other diseases being delayed in the traffic jam caused by all the hypochondriacs.

The joke around the office (when a person sneezes or has a slight cold) that you have swine flu is no longer funny.
