Obama Extends Secret Service Guard for Cheney

Former Vice President Dick Cheney's Secret Service protection, which was due to expire this past week, has been extended for at least another six months.

Vice presidents normally receive only six months of protection at taxpayers' expense after they leave office. But Cheney requested an extension, and President Barack Obama — whom Cheney has criticized in interviews in recent months — authorized it.

If Obama had denied the request, Cheney would have been forced to hire his own security agents or go without protection, the New York Daily News noted.

Cheney can ask for another extension when the new 6-month term runs out, and sources close to the former vice president predicted that he would do so.

Glad that Obama decided to extend Cheney's protection. Cheney is a great man and it would be awful to see some conspiracy nut harm him based on a bunch of lies.

Considering that the man has undoubtably been threatened numerous times by people most would consider a bit on the frindge, it's probably a good idea to extend his Secret Service protection indefinitely.

There are nuts out there who might be inclined to attempt to do the man harm.

Obama is extending Cheney the same SS coverage that Bush/Cheney extended to him. Obama got protection while he was just a candidate and wasn't entitled to it. Cheney now isn't entitled to it, but Obama is extending it due to necessity.

Both Obama and Bush/Cheney have been acting responsibly with this.

Of course by 'great man' you mean lying, murdering asshole - and by 'conspiracy nut' you mean patriot - and of course by 'bunch of lies' you mean mountains of hard evidence.

If I was an American - or lived there - I would certainly be vying to do the honours.
