Calling Jews 'Nazis' may be criminalised

From The Jewish Chronicle
Leon Symons
July 16, 2009

Parliament will be asked to consider whether the use of Nazi symbols and terms in reference to Jews, Israel and Zionism is breaking the law on incitement to racial hatred.

A new report by the European Institute for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism (EISCA) has highlighted the increasing use of what it terms the “Nazi card” in antisemitic discourse and has called for a number of measures to try to combat its spread.

“Playing the Nazi card” has been defined in the report as the use of Nazi-related terms or symbols — for example intertwining the swastika with the Star of David — while negatively referring to Jews, Israel, Zionism or other aspects of what it calls the Jewish experience.

The report, which was jointly published by EISCA and the Department for Communities and Local Government, recommends that the Home Office, the Association of Chief Police officers (ACPO) and the Crown Prosecution Service should prepare new guidance for the police on whether this kind of terminology amounts to incitement.

The report says that universities and adult education colleges should be surveyed to establish how they deal with antisemitic discourse.

It also suggests that the University and College Union and the National Union of Journalists use the EU Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia’s definition of antisemitism to improve their harassment policies.

While it could be argued that calling a Jewish person a Nazi is bigotry I cannot see how equating a state such as Israel or a zionist equates to racial incitement. More interestingly, what if a hypothetical Jewish person espouses racial supremacy and other fascistic tendencies? Couldn't he or she justifiably be called a Nazi?

Case in point is the phenomenon of Israeli tourists descending upon the hills surrounding Gaza to celebrate the demolition of Gaza by the IDF. One of the tourists, Keren Levy freely admitted she is a fascist on Dutch TV and said "I think that is the only solution...clear off the entire city...I'm a little bit fascist."

Would describing such a person as a Nazi be entirely justifiable? By her own words. she said that she was a fascist and wanted the sterilisation of Gaza. Here is the video - at about 1:00 minute, it goes into English;

While the article is currently wishful think, it carries the tone of inevitability with the writer proposing to take the matter to more than just the government such as with the University and College Union and the National Union of Journalists. The irony is that both these organisation have campaigned against the atrocities being committed against the Palestinian people. In fact, the University and College Union voted amongst it membership to boycott Israel which resulted in pro Israeli activists preparing to sue the membership on an individual by individual basis.

More disturbingly, the ground work to enforce the proposal has already been done by the pro-Israelis for a law that does not exist yet;

The report, which was jointly published by EISCA and the Department for Communities and Local Government, recommends that the Home Office, the Association of Chief Police officers (ACPO) and the Crown Prosecution Service should prepare new guidance for the police on whether this kind of terminology amounts to incitement.

Basically these activists are advising municipal authorities and the police on how to identify and deal with those they classify as anti-Semites.

Apparently the evolution of the term "anti-Semite" encompasses those that sympathise with the Semitic Palestinians and those that criticise the policies of the Israeli state. In effect, we have arrived in age where there is such a thing as a trans-national police state with its agents operating on foreign jurisdictions.

Seems like this guy is screwed then. While it is bigoted and just plain wrong to call *jews* nazi's ...im always a bit careful around so called hate speech because it treads a fine line and is open to abuse by people with an agenda. We can see that here when it comes to calling the israel government nazi's...we all know who was pushing for it to be criminalised.Nothing to do with judaism, its the Israeli governemnt trying to silence anyone who disagrees with them one little step at a time.

Uh, who calls Jews "nazis" anyway?

Never heard of such a thing. Fortunately this does not exist in my reality.

I plan to keep it that way.

I don't really see this any different then hate speech laws in the United States. Now i don't agree we should have this since i believe a person has a right to speak there mind. But we are in a politically correct world where speech can and does get curtailed if its deemed for the good of the public lord knows we don't want to upset people.

and the Nazi's has socialist ideals however they went after the socialists in fact the blamed the socialists for its appeasement of foreigners and selling out Germany. This later leads to the persecution of the Jews what started out as a boycott became something far more sinister. So to say someone is a socialist doesn't make them a NAZI.

Economically fascism and extreme socialism are similar but the difference is that with extreme socialism the state controls corporations, with fascism corporations control the state. It is about the application of power without the voice of the people.

Exactly thats why the US they like to talk about the socialist agenda of the current administration. But back on topic Hate speech is being criminalized in every country the bad part is who decides whats hate speech. More to the point i have a feeling this response has more to do with symbolism then anything else.

Israel wants to be able to continue there Nazi pity party hoping that people wont forget what happened and garner sympathy.Alas this is a useless endeavor I'm afraid. They either need to do one of 2 things literally stop playing the game close the boarder and stop letting the Palestinians run this conflict or make peace. Both scenarios are unlikely if they decided they were done playing the game the international community would push them back in.If they decided to make peace we all know thats not going to happen it takes both sides and Hammas wont let that happen.

So bottom line this conflict will continue to fester until one side wipes out the other.

When do we all get to stop feeling sorry for the "poor little jews?"
They practically own the entire MSM, and they enjoy the most legally protected racial existance in the world. Isreal gets away with things other countries would be bombed for! ...Archaic modes of thinking. ...Racially exclusive priveleges. The list goes on and on.

Now I have absolutely nothing against their religion or any individual jewish person, but the nation of Israel needs to be treated as that: A NATION. Not a race, not a religion... Even if the jewish race as a whole gets special rights and priveleges other races do not, Isreal, the country, should not get that protection. If people speak out against Isreal, the NATION, it is NOT because they are "anti-semitic." When people complain about the USA, are they anti-christian? are they anti-freemason? NO! But if there were enough rich christians or whoever who banded together and manipulated the legal system, maybe people would get sued all the time for their anti-christian rants! Imagine saying similar things about a jewish person that people say about christianity or muslims... They wouldnt, because they are scared of being sued. Is this right!?

Do jews think they are somehow entitled to... oh wait, I forgot! They ARE God's chosen people!!! So I guess they can do whatever they want then! I mean, the rest of us are only animals anyway, right?
...Please excuse the rant, but unequality is quite maddening to me, and sometimes i just get fed up. I didnt put anyone in a gas chamber or crack any whips at the cotton plantation, so why the hell should I have to CONSTANTLY be reminded and/or made to feel guilty about it!? If you look back in history, EVERY RACE, RELIGION, or GROUP has been somehow persecuted and treated unfairly at some point!! SO UNLESS YOU WERE ALIVE THEN AND SUFFERED, GET OVER IT.

There are some things that should never be forgotten. Ever. The halocaust and slavery are two of those things. This is a part of world history. Something we all must understand. How it started. What caused it. How it ended. The dynamics from beginning to end are important to help insure that this type of mistake, a mistake on humanity of the highest degree, is never repeated.

I don't think they do whine. I'm sure they very much wish it had never happened.

Educate me.

From what I understand Zionists are a religion and state combined political party - like the Nazis were?

Jewish people are not Zionists, but to be a Zionist you must be Jewish?

Is that right?

Not all Jews are zionists and not all zionists are Jews.

Zionism is a political philosophy akin to fascism. It is the an consolidation of an ideology and a secondary factor that is interchangeable dependent upon the argument. Sometimes it is religion, or history or race.
