I've never heard of this type of storm being called a derecho. We've always heard "straight-line winds." It's nice to put a name to the disaster!
I've been through those and they are pretty amazing.

Sounds like a squall line. Not to understate the severity but there's nothing really unusual about it. Typical TV weatherman nonsense.
