Well the mutilation didn't work. Jews seem to be as obsessed with sex as Gentiles. To what "work" are you referring?

Wow that gods a weirdo, he could have given us the tips on how to make penicillin or proper soap, heck if he wasn't such a mean spirited old guy he would have given us trees which make anti-bacterial soap and told us how to pick and use it, or he wouldn't have made bacteria and things in the first place. Weirdo.

Some males HAVE to have their foreskin removed since it's too tight.

Well I have mine and I will not submit my penis to such barbaric treatment, moreover, it makes sexual intercourse less enjoyable.

This thread made me laugh out loud. It's a very good question though.
The jokes practically write themselves!

Ha I just wonder what Saul did with the 200 foreskins David brought him as payment for his daughter... maybe it was currency back then? Four Skins was the equivalent of a denarius or some such common amount and so it took on the name, and modern day people couldnt fathom why its called the fourskin, and changed it to fore. I'm actually going to use this in my graphic novel now...

The "8 days old" part is AMAZING (scientifically speaking),
See quote below from article called

Biblical Accuracy and Circumcision on the 8th Day

Technically its NOT amazing if God made the 8th day optimal. Its like saying wednesday is the best day to go fishing when every wednesday you dump a bucket of fish into the lake.

You likely know that selfish self-righteous arrogance is one of the most popular religions nowadays.

So, sacrifice is toooooooooooo UN-PC to even be acknowledged as any kind of valid concept.

Not really sacrifice if ya dont know yer doing it, and the kids not even religious yet maybe he'll grow up to be the next Stalin. No offense, Stalin

The choice for circumcision is a cultural one. Whether it is done for religion, simply because everyone else is doing it, or any other factor, the reason is cultural alone.

It is just a matter of choice.

There is no statistical evidence that being circumcised helps prevent HIV infection, unless we are talking about places with poor health education and hygiene such as the only conclusive studies which were done in Sub-Saharan Africa which has over 60% of the worlds HIV cases, and virtually no health education.

The link to cervical cancer also only apples to those with poor health practices. (multiple partners, unprotected sex and poor hygiene)

Although urinary tract infections are rarer in males than in females, there is a higher rate of infection in circumcised men. The foreskin protects against UT Infection as it produces natural antibiotics.

Any male who is circumcised at birth will not notice any sexual loss. Circumcision does however result in the loss of 20,000 nerve endings and the desensitization of countless more as the skin on the exposed glans toughens. Nature (or God if you prefer) designed the glans as an internal organ.

Circumcision is no replacement for proper hygiene and health practices in todays modern world. The number of males who are not circumcised and later develop complications is far lower than the number of males who develop complications from the circumcision itself.
There are a number complications with circumcision as follows. I included percentage of occurrence when I could find it:

More than two thirds of circumcised babies have penile adhesions.
2.9% result in Phimosos. (Inability to retract what's left of the foreskin.)
Hairy Shaft: which is similar to Penoscrotal Webbing: The shaft of the penis is normally hairless, but erection of a tightly circumcised penis can pull hairy scrotal skin on to the shaft, causing discomfort on intercourse. You can ask Radio Host Howard Stern about this as he suffers from a botched circumcision with this result.
35% experience Hemmoraging: Not that big a deal generally, but as a baby only has a small amount of blood to begin with, transfusions have sometimes been required.
Meatal stenosis, meatal ulcer: 8% The baby's foreskin prevents the re-entry of urine. The ammonia in urine attacks the meatus, the opening of the urethra in the glans of a circumcised baby. This can also happen in circumcised adults.
De-gloving: (Where the outer skin layer slides out of alignment with the mucosa, like a glove coming off a finger) 1 in 70
Urethrocutaneous Fistula: This can also occur in circumcised adolescents with skin bridges from circumcision.
Infection: Studies show that 8% contract some kind of infection. We all know that staph is on the rise in hospitals and some infants have even died from circumcision related infections.
Neuroma: Destruction of the large number of the nerve-endings is inevitable in circumcision.(That 20,000 I mentioned earlier) Studies show that when a nerve is cut, the cut end swells up greatly and the fibre sprouts and branches, resulting in "a disordered tangle of axons, Schwann cells and fibrous tissue" instead of the original receptor. Studies of circumcision sites show amputation neuromas - well-known for causing sensations of pain.
Blockage of the urethra: While rare at only 1.8% it has lead to infant death.
Buried penis: also known as "iatrogenically entrapped penis. Rare but serious. Listen to this victims tale...

I'm a 35 y/o male with a lifetime disfiguration as a result of circumcision as a child. My penis is inverted inside my body and as a result have faced a lot of distress emotionally and socially. It has effected my life negativly in so many ways, love life, school to where I missed years worth of school because i was ashamed of my disfigurment to avoid manditory showering with my peers.

Brain damage. Sounds weird but it happened. Brain Damage during Circumcision
Some botched circumcisions have resulted in the total loss of the glans. (No head)
The worst botched cases result in total amputation.

If you chose circumcision, realize that it is a medical procedure on a very sensitive part of the body and proceed with care. It is not at all a useless bit of flesh like the earlobe.

James Allen argued that circumcision came into existence as a preventive of parasitic infections such as schistosomiasis,16 while (Sir) John Bland-Sutton believed that since ‘a long foreskin is a recognised hindrance to convenient coitus’ the main purpose of circumcision was to ensure fertility.17

I BELIEVE IT IS ABOUT FERTILITY RITES,oops caps
www.nzma.org.nz...

The threat of sand has also been advanced as a justification for the circumcision of normal Western men in the twentieth century. Professor Hutson stated that when Australian soldiers were stationed in the Middle East during the First and Second World Wars ‘the incidence of recurrent balanitis caused by sand under the foreskin reached ‘epidemic’ proportions, leading to large numbers of soldiers requiring circumcision.’1

sorry if this has already peen posted, so it is understandable that this practice would arise out of the middle east, but did it?

I'm cut and I honestly could give a rat's ass about it. Uncut willies look strange to me (only seen in various porn growing up) but I suppose if the situation were reversed, it'd be the same. Some of you seem obsessed with it though. Geez, okay, chicks dig it. We get it. Some girls prefer a cut one too. You guys are gonna give me a complex about my wenis, man. Ha ha.

Being a circumcised male, I don't see it as barbaric at all! Personally, I'm glad I am. I don't carry any torment or bad memories of the procedure at all. I fail to see what all the fuss is about.

A couple of my mates had to be circumcised when they were in their early twenties because certain things can go terribly wrong down there that require the procedure - and I can assure you that it's far worse to have it done later in life.

It's also easier to maintain a hygienic regime and I haven't met a female (in my personal experience) that doesn't appreciate it. It certainly doesn't hinder sexual performance! *wink-wink*

I remember reading somewhere that circumcision was originally conceived for men that lived in hot climates such as the desert - and also helped protect males against infections and irritations brought about by sand under the foreskin.

Personally, I think a circumcised penis has a better aesthetic - but that's just my humble opinion.

IRM

I was circumcised whilst quite young (although I was old enough to remember). Unlike other males in my family who had the procedure purely on the say-so of their parents, mine was a medical problem involving a small foreskin and a rather large willy!

I wouldn't change it for the world. The argument that nerve endings are killed during the procedure is a valid one but something I haven't seen mentioned is that the level of sensation/nerve loss has been greatly reduced as the level of technology and medical understanding has increased. Nothing is certain however and I'm sure there can be complications and mistakes and it being such a sensitive area, it does seem rather odd that some parents opt for it when there is no real need.

I've also found that most women I've had the opportunity of 'frolicking' with appreciate the extra cleanliness and for me, it's alot easier to maintain.

As a side note, if indeed I did lose 20-40000 nerve endings like a previous poster suggested I'd have to think of something EXTRA unsexy during 'the act' to stave off the inevitable if I hadn't had it chopped off...

Edit: stoopid speling!!1

The head of the penis serves as an inner organ, and needs protection. Thats why you got foreskin... Just look it up, its a fact

Hello just saw your post. Haven't seen any replies yet so forgive me if this info is a double up.

Just thought that you would be interested in knowing what the words, or at least the main words mean as most of the Hebrew and Greek text translated into English is deceptive. The Hebrew and Greek words have much deeper meanings that are lost in the English as well as "tenses" such as imperfect( Ongoing Tense), perfect (something completed), and so on. Anyways the important words...

Circumcised

H4135 muwl mool perhaps you recognize Maul
a primitive root; to cut short, i.e. curtail (specifically the prepuce, i.e. to circumcise); by implication, to blunt; figuratively, to destroy:--circumcise(-ing), selves), cut
down (in pieces), destroy, X must needs.

"The Christ is "cut off", but not for himself"

Covenant

H1285 briyth ber-eeth' perhaps you recognize "Birth"
from H1262 (in the sense of cutting (like H1254));
a compact (because made by passing between pieces of flesh):--
confederacy, (con-)feder(-ate), covenant, league.

"Narrow is the path that leads to eternal life" Narrow as the hips.

Abraham

H85 'Abraham ab-raw-hawm'
contracted from H1 and an unused root (probably meaning to be populous);
father of a multitude; Abraham, the later name of Abram:--Abraham.

The meanings of the words from the original languages do tons to open up the word so that it actually makes sense. Without going to the original languages the texts remain mysteries.

The covenant with people is the same as it has always been and is this.

"A man must leave his mother and father and cling inside of the woman of him, and the two shall become one flesh"...The Living God's salvation is Genesis to Genesis, Gehenna to Gehenna, Generation to Generation. Anyone not reproducing is "cut off" from their people.

Peace, ltru

We have 3 sons, all in their 20s and they are in their natural state.

When only one week away from delivering our first child, my mother asked me if I was going to have the baby circumcised if it was a boy. I replied "Definitely not. Why would I do that?" My mother then answered with "Well your father and brothers are"
I remember being totally gobsmacked at this lame excuse. I firmly told my mother that this procedure would never be an option unless a medical complication called for it. I also told her that her opinion and input regarding that subject was way out of line and the she is only the grandparent and needs to not concern herself with how rear our child(ren).

Several years ago my youngest had a problem, I believe it is called phimosis (when the foreskin becomes tight at the end) the urologist examined him and said that his first sexual experience would fix it.

Luckily that doctor was right.

All three sons have happy relationships with their longterm partners.

take care all

Perhaps it's the Machimo-Factor?

Medically, circumcision is bad for the penis because the head is very vulnerable compared to other similar tissues because the penis does not have mucus glands on the outside.

ok i know there is a whole religous aspect to this thread but i am not religous so i will not go there, however with both of my children i left he decision up to my husband. he wanted it done and not for religous reasons but for sanitary reasons, so it was done.

they were babies, ya i could hear them scream and it was the worst thing in the world but they scream when they get shots and that is necessary too. ( in most cases anyway)

I find it sad that we argue against thousands of years of evolution . I'm pretty sure if it served no purpose we would have not evolved to have it. Evolution works in the most efficient way that it can. Carrying on only what it needs and what works best.
Leave your kids genitals alone. Religion should have no bearing when it comes to the human body, Its much more perfect than any denomination.

""These, then, are the human genitals. Considering their great delicacy, complexity and sensitivity,
one might imagine that an intelligent species like man would leave them alone. Sadly, this has
never been the case. For thousands of years, in many different cultures, the genitals have fallen
victim to an amazing variety of mutilations and restrictions. For organs that are capable of giving
us an immense amount of pleasure, they have been given an inordinate amount of pain."
