Why the heck isn't eggnog available all year? I just don't get it, and I am 43 and I am tired of wondering....
Anyone have any ideas? and how can we stop it?

I don't know, but where can I get some GOOD eggnog?
I hate the grocery store stuff and last year, my home-made wasn't that good.

The eggs that eggnog comes from, and hence the nog, are only laid by rare lavender unicorns and they can only lay eggs once a year. So I've heard

Hey!
I think home-made is better. The store bought tastes bad to me.
Maybe, I'll try to make chocolate eggnog this year!
I'll tell you how it goes!

Well, I was informed by someone much smarter than myself that lavender unicorns do not lay eggs. I have also deduced that lavender unicorns are liars.

So, what was wrong with last years? How does one make eggnog anyway? besides eggs....

i dont know, i didnt think it was sold here year 'round....but one day i went down to the little mini mart on the corner, and there it was. i swear it was radiating some kind of light, kinda like a halo. but it tasted NASTY.

the mini mart is owned by asian people, real nice people too. maybe that is the secret huh......

BTW the first time i noticed it was in june or july, unless they were stocking up really early.....i really dont know.

It was too sweet and wasn't rich enough.
I think I used milk and eggs, maybe this time I'll use heavy cream.
Chocolate does sound kind of weird, well, maybe butterscotch!
I was the ONLY one that drank it last year. My husband or children(without rum) didn't like it.

Unicorns are stupid animals. even more than Pegasus!

If Martha Stewart doesn't have a good eggnogg recipe, who will? Heavy on the liquor too lol

* 12 eggs, separated
* 1 1/2 cups superfine sugar
* 1 quart whole milk
* 1 1/2 quarts heavy cream
* 3 cups bourbon
* 1/2 cup dark rum
* 2 cups cognac
* freshly grated nutmeg

Directions

1
In a very large bowl, beat egg yolks until thick and pale yellow. Gradually add sugar to yolks. With a wire whisk, beat in milk and 1 quart cream. Add bourbon, rum, and cognac, stirring constantly.

2
Just before serving, beat egg whites until stiff. Fold into mixture. Whip remaining 1/2 quart heavy cream until stiff, and fold into mixture, Sprinkle with nutmeg.

I think if anyone could get lavender unicorns to lay eggs, it would be Martha..

First, the reason it isn't available all year round is because you would end up the fattest, drunkest person on the planet. You can only afford to live that way during advent.

The real reason it isn't available, the real reason the storebought stuff tastes bad:

The trouble isn't the eggs, it's the Nogs.

Nog harvest doesn't start until after Halloween in the midwest, once the temperature drops at night enough that the blossoms fall away and the fruit can be safely harvested without brushing up against the hallucinagenic properties of the outer nog-husk. Otherwise, you'll damage your noggin.

Personally, I am turning into a nog-hog. I'm drinking it evenings at parties and office "gatherings."

By day, I froth it with my espresso machine and use THAT for my steamed milk in my capuccino.

I'm beginning to look like humpty dumpty. but happy.

all the best.

What the?

I didn't even know eggnog had alcohol in it. I've been drinking that since age 5.

That could explain a lot...
