Until They find the culprit that is causing this,
Here is how I turned off the annoying bing noise.
This worked on my XP machine.....And will not affect any other sounds or players on your machine:

The Information bar at the top will still be there...it just wont bing! I too like to listen to the ATS mix shows while I am
reading the threads.

1) Click Start
2) Click Control panel
3) Click Sounds Speech an Audio Devices
4) Click Sounds and Audio Devices (next to the speaker icon)
5) Click the Sounds TAB (at the top of the window)
6) Scroll down the list till you find "Information Bar" click it to highlight it.
7) Down at the bottom..click the pulldown arrow button
8) At the very top of the list will be [NONE] click this
9) Click apply
10) Click OK and close

you are all set....takes longer to read the steps then to do them
