So the headlines indicate some tough times ahead of us. Some forecast the collapse of the dollar and US economic system within 9-12 months. Others predict the end of the world by 2012.

With each passing day, the world's news events seem to be increasingly painting a doom-and-gloom perception.

If I had to put these events to some musical soundtrack, sometimes I feel like "Eye in the Sky" by Alan Parsons Project or "Get Up, Stand Up" by Bob Marley are quite appropriate picks.

So now it's your turn.

Ppretend this global collapse was made into a documentary or movie...

...what songs would you include in its soundtrack?

I came up with the idea out-of-the-blue as I was downloading songs to my MySpace page, to match my recent doom-and-gloom themed blog entries.

Mission Impossible is a good choice.

That's great it starts with an earthquake
Birds and snakes and aeroplanes
And Lenny Bruce is not afraid

Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn
World serves it's own needs, dummy serve your own needs
Feed it off an aux speak grunt no
ladder with a clatter fight, fear flight down height
Wire in a fire representing seven games and a government for hire in a combat site
Left of west and coming in a hurry with the furies breathing down your neck

Team by team reporters baffled, trumped, tethered, cropped
Look at that low playing, fine, then
Uh-oh overflow, population common food, but it'll do
Save yourself, serve yourself, world serves it's own needs
Listen to your heart bleed dummy with the rapture and the revered and the right, right
Vitreolic, patriotic stand, fight, bright, light
Feeling pretty psyched

It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it
And I feel fine

Six o'clock TV hour, don't get caught in foreign towers
Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn
Locking in, uniforming, book-burning, blood-letting
Every motive escalate, automotive incinerate
Light a candle, light a votive, step down step down
Watch your heel, crush, crushed uh-oh this means
No fear cavalier, renegade, steer clear
A tournament, a tournament, a tournament of lies
Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives
And I decline

It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it
And I feel fine

I feel fine

The other night I dreamt of knives, continental drift divide
Mountains sit in a line, Leonard Bernstein
Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs
Birthday party, cheescake, jellybean, boom you
Symbiotic patriotic slam book neck
Right? Right!

It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it
And I feel fine

I feel fine

I think the theme soundtrack from Thin Red Line would do just nicely....

As for the mood I've encountered here on ATS, I think that David Bowie's remix of the Nine Inch Nail song "I'm Afraid of Americans" would fit ... at least his music video pretty much straps the mood down pat lol!

Very tough call for me, I'm a bit of a music junky I just can't get enough of the stuff. Starred and flagged by the way excellent thread.
It's not possible for me to come up with just one or two songs, so I made my own soundtrack for the world. I like to think that I have a fairly eclectic taste in music so hopefully there's something here for everyone.
I feel that every one of these songs have a message for us all. Enjoy.
This isn't all doom and gloom, I feel that the world needs more than that.

Buffalo Springfield - For What Its Worth

Linkin Park - In The End

John Lennon - Give Peace a Chance

Sixx: A.M. - Life is Beautiful

Tupac Shakur - Smile

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man

Guns N' Roses - Estranged

Grateful Dead - Brokedown Palace

Garth Brooks - Standing Outside The Fire

I could go on all day, but these are a few I would definitely have to add.
