Tape measure: X-rays detected from Scotch tape

news.yahoo.com

Slideshow: Scotch tape emits X-rays NEW YORK – Just two weeks after a Nobel Prize highlighted theoretical work on subatomic particles, physicists are announcing a startling discovery about a much more familiar form of matter: Scotch tape. It turns out that if you peel the popular adhesive tape off its roll in a vacuum chamber, it emits X-rays. The researchers even made an X-ray image of one of their fingers.

So how long will it be untill we can take our own X-rays?
Someone smarter than me, on ats, should be able to come up with some really cool things you can do with this discovery.
If anyone out there knows of any way to experiment with this I would love to hear from you.

That's sooo freaking neat! and scary.....

a couple things come to mind:

-we as humans know so very little about.. well... everything.. LOL.

-think about all those office workers and schools getting a decent hit of xrays every day!

-can over exposure of xrays cause cancer?

- is it brand specific? lol

This is so cool, but i wouldn't worry about people x-raying themselves in offices......unless they work in a vacuum.

Yeah, I would imagine that atmosphere probably aborbs alot of the X-rays emitted. If it was dangerous, then someone would have noticed by now and probably banned it.
