Everyone whos posted here seems to think this is a good survival idea. I fail to understand. Yes, living on a houseboat in modern times certainly
has its appeal. No neighbors, no lawn to mow, ease of moving, etc... I think it would be a fantastic way to live. As a survival retreat? Not so
certain there. Eventually fuel would run out, yes, you have the wind, but should "pirates" find you, I dont think that would be sufficent. Almost
impossible to grow anything in bulk. Yes, you could have gardens on land and return to them, but should they be robbed, you cant defend them.
If something goes wrong, and you are caught in a storm and sink, then what? Everything is gone, and you get stuck in a dingy. Boats in my experience
require a good deal of work and cash. I remember something about a hole in the water you throw money into.
Now on the flip side of that, using a boat the same way you would use a overland vehicle as a way of getting out of dodge I could see. Have one set
up with your gear in it, when TSHTF jump in and head up a river to a planned cache or retreat. That would make a good deal of sense, and thinking on
that line, I should look into that. But to go out and equip a full size boat to survive sit-x I think would be a long term mistake.
But as Ive said 100 times on here, to each their own, we all have our own preferances and needs when it comes to getting prepared.
