humans are such poor learners that history tends to repeat itself.

i thnk people are forgetting the politcs that would be inolved in a korean conflict. the u.s. wouldn't start lobbing nukes in just because mass waves of n. koreans are running thru the DMZ. one also has to consider china. n. korea doesn't do much without chinas approvale or at least their silence. that said n.korea leaders seem to be more wacko the other leaders that invade countries..so n. korea could just fly off the handle and do something stupid.
close in mountain fighting with 10s of thousands of troops...what kind of casualties do you think that would cause on our side?? could the u.s. handle it with the ongoing problems in iraq, troops still patrolling in afgan, and a bunch of troops sitting around in bosnia.... between the u.s. army and usmc..there are about 600,000 troops...figure about a 1 to 6 ratio of combat troops to support troops....say, isn't there talk about a draft??????

You said it best, clearmind.

It' apparent many people also don't really understand North Korea that well.

The reasoning a lot of people use here is that North Korea would lose a lot, and therefore, they would lose. Logically, it sounds right. But logic doesn't really answer everything (there is always a certain subtlty). North Korea may lose a lot, but the difference is, they are willing to lose it.

Like the North Vietnamese. The U.S. pretty much slaughtered the Vietnamese, yet they still won. I don't know the numbers, but I heard North Vietnamese losses approach a million. But they still won! How does that happen! Simple, an enemy simply is willing to go as far as it wishes to win.

North Korea is a very formidable military force. But it's psychology is what keeps it going on. It has a no-surrender policy. It is very safe to say that North Korean morale will definitely outmatch America's. America is very squemish when it comes to heavy, dirty, brutal war. We couldn't handle the images from Somalia, and now we can't handle the images from Iraq.

And don't forget politics. Politics alone would be disasterous to American plans.
