I love ATS and spend a great deal of time here and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, “Are you on that damn website again?”. So I started thinking about those closest to us and what they think about all of the time we spend on ATS. Especially those of you who spend a great deal of time here, not mentioning any names of course, but you know who you are.

Are your friends and family really cool with it? Do they miss you? Do they feel left out and ignored? Have you gotten really good at hiding the fact that you’re on ATS? You, know, like when you hear them come in the back door, you jump up out of your chair and run to the sink like you’ve been doing dishes the whole time? Or have you gained the ability to do an entire day’s work in about 20 minutes when you look up at the clock and realize that everyone will be home in 30 minutes? I call that “ Oh, SH** “ cleaning.

Well as for those closest to me:

My husband thinks I’m having an internet affair. Well, I am. This ‘person’ is mysterious and allusive, the private investigators will never get a good picture of him. He loves to travel he never stays in one place for very long and every time they try to trace communication, their equipment experiences disruption in power. Not to mention the fact that they will never catch up to his totally custom vehicle.

Friends, meet Harry….

So, the husband thinks I’m strange, but actually tolerates my time on here pretty well. The more that I gripe (using my clean language) to someone online, the less I gripe to him. The kids are fine as long as they can have the computer when they want/need it. They are old enough now so that they don’t need me hovering over them constantly. My youngest loves to look at the BTS smileys and helps me pick them out. My teenager? Well who knows what she is thinking, I don’t.

My sister (who is my best friend), thinks I’m a little off, but she is glad that I have something to occupy my time and reminds me that it’s cheaper than the mall. She wants to join ATS, but a thread would die a slow agonizing death by the time she could peck her first line on the keyboard.

My dad is cool with it. He and I have a lot in common. He’s convinced that he will one day be able to isolate and identify dark matter. He’s working on it. Of course, when this happens ATS will be the first to know.

If my mom were still alive she would have so many intelligent things to say to so many of you here, like go outside and breathe occasionally. She would be supportive because she knows I enjoy hanging out here, but would then kindly tell me to “please get a job”. Thanks mom, miss you.

I have a great family.

So far I’ve made it a pretty healthy balance in my life because I’m still going out there and enjoying it…..life.

I’d love to hear what your family and/or friends think?

Aha ha h ha ha ha...

Oh this made me laugh!!! I've been here almost everyday since 2004 and my husband refers to this place as "My make beleive friends" :ll:
He also assumes i'm having an affair- must be a long term one

Not a day goes by that he doesnt ask me "who're you talking to" and i say"anybody that will listen"

My family and friends rolls their eyes up in their heads when i quote news from here
and i say go ahead and laugh, but you dont know anything, and you're jealous because i know things, that you wouldnt even dream of knowing.

If I go sit and watch some tv he says:"Whats the matter, your friends arent talking to ya?"

Those narrow minded live only for today people and dont give a crap about the world, much less our environment, space, and the many other things that i feed off of, have managed to give me the title of Ms. Conspiracy- But you can be sure when something happens, after i told them it likely would, they complain but they never say "Hey! you were right! you knew!
Hell no, they dont want to give me that satisfaction!!!

I tell them, go ahead and laugh, just remember where you heard it when it happens!!!

If they know about ATS, my family would consider me a nutter for participating in an artificial world.

Do they miss you?

They don't know I exist since they are too busy and tired to care about me.

Do they feel left out and ignored?

They leave me completely out of their lives and pretty much ignore my opinions and beliefs about conspiracy related matters.

Have you gotten really good at hiding the fact that you’re on ATS?

Nope, I've left my clues on the internet and a few, ahem, 'people' already know my whereabouts here at ATS. Muhahaha!

Hi DG! That's a great point, though. I've got some great friends here, connecting with people that have the same interests as you, not matter how far out there those interests may be.

But you can be sure when something happens, after i told them it likely would, they complain but they never say "Hey! you were right! you knew!

Same here. Some of my most closed minded friends and family will call me with questions wanting to know what people at ATS are saying about this conspiracy or that conspiracy.

Hi pikypiky and thanks for posting. You will probably be the first one they call for answers when/if something really big happens. It sounds like you are free to spend as much time here as you want.

oh crap your right!

My family doesn't much care, they are a little concerned, but when I tell them what is going to be on the news before they turn the TV on because of what I read here they pipe down a bit.

They are also concerned that someone is going to pull up in a white van and................

Yeh, mine's wondering where I am right now as a matter of fact. I told them that the pizza that I made for dinner will be here in about 20 minutes, what more could they possibly want?

Now, that would be a heck of a prank to play at the next family get together. Do you know anyone with a white van?

This would be one of the main reasons I kicked my ex to the curb.(SERIOUSLY)
Yes I freely admit, I'm in LOVE with ATS/BTS.
*GIGGLES*

My kids know that my dearest friends are the members of this site, and have never dissed me for coming here.

Excellent thread!
My family makes fun 'with' me. If I am in chat and cracking up, they love to tease me. Often when I get the serious need to find out what is going on they give me total space and are very supportive of my time on the forum.
As for others, I always tell them it is a survival forum or something to that affect, remind them that even Police Officers and you name it come on here for News First.
As with the advent of the Internet, Ats/Bts has opened my mind and unlocked a potential which would have other wise taken life times spent in libraries.

Me too. Rush giggles even more.

I understand that. My family is really close, even more so after my mom died, I kind of picked up her role, I take care of my family. So I think that this is part of the reason that they tolerate my time here so well, they know I'm always there for them......unless I'm in the middle of a good thread. And they realize that it's important for me to have something.......that's like my own thing. It seems like everything else I do involves them in one way or another, which is fine, but ATS is my own thing, it's cheaper than the mall and I'm at home.

You know it's bad when someone walks into the room and says..

"You're on here again??..why can't you act like a normal person and look at porn instead."

Hi antar. I think that is fantastic. That not only do they tolerate it, they also have fun with it.

Believe it or not, up until about a year ago, I was terrified and/or stupid when it came to the internet. But, with a teenager, I had to learn real quick and she helped me realize that it can be fun.

I've been interested in conspiracies/aliens/paranormal and a bit of a hermit for a looong time, so my family doesn't see this as anything out of the ordinary for me.

They're really very good about it - my mom even asks how things are going on 'that site I'm always visiting' and sometimes we'll talk about the topics. She's just happy that I'm talking to people on a regular basis, even if it is on the internet.

Yah, it bothers me that we've kind of gotten that 'label'. I can't imagine why.

I'm glad that your mom is so supportive. And I think that it's just easier to find people with the same interests as you on the internet. With that said, I do worry, mostly about my teen and her friends, that they are sometimes missing out on the 'social' aspect of interaction with their friends.

I've tried to tell some of my family and friends about ATs:

Last Christmas i was stying with relitives I was there about a week or so. One day i had to use there computer. while doing what i had to do online i wondered over to ATS.

A thread about "The man on Mars" cought my eye . after a few posts deep i came to my own conclusion and decided it was a rock, and not a sand trooper from Star Wars, and chuckled to myself.

I' called out to one of my reletives who i had been trying to bond with over the holiday. to try and give him a laugh ( god knows he need one)

He asked me what site i was on ....i said ATS ..his reply was....""....well almost to the word " No thanks, nothing on there i wont need to know, and if i do need to know, it will be in the newspaper in the morning"

I' had tried to explain ATS over dinner the night before, but my aloof and eluded company had dimissed it.

He was right,
in almost all of the British MSM newspapers there was some artical or another about this "Mars anomaly" that i had been aware of for weeks due to ATS

Thank you and @$%& em'

Hi D/amigO. That same relative would probably be hooked if he spent one day on ATS. My sister has "some" interest is the same topics as I, and for months has been getting more and more curious about ATS. I'll get her here before too long. MUAHAHAHAHAHA! But first I have to teach her how to type.

ATS does feel like "A dirty secret" sometimes. But its ok, im not alone, you ALL are my dity little secret whether you like it or not!
