NASA Spacecraft Make New Discoveries about Northern Lights (Isn't that H.A.A.R.P's job?)

Ok, I just stumbled across this article on NASA....here it is..

This is a great article about recent discoveries on the Auroras, but....

Let's get this straight...HAARP was originally developed to study Aurora's right? Yet, they send the THEMIS spacecraft up to do this? It makes me really suspicious now what HAARP is really about...I mean I already heard the rumors but now my eyebrows are really raised...

If I am wrong, please someone show me what the truth is on this...
