Five U.S. service personnel were killed when a military transport helicopter crashed during a routine flight west of Baghdad on Tuesday, the U.S. military said.

Yet more deaths in this stupid war. The soldiers should be be at the mexican border stopping al-Qaeda terrorists. But thats too late now. They are already amongst us.

That brings the body count to 3699 US KIA's plus 168 British KIA's, an 129 of other nations KIA's. That is 3996 troops killed in Iraq since the beginning. Contractors not included. And add here number of more then 27,000 heavily wounded, many of them permanently disabled.

And not to mention surviving ones that will suffer from PTSD.

During war, those involved in fights get accustomed to violence and killing. When they return home, they are far more likely to commit violent crimes or suicides then other people.

It really makes me feel bad, just to think about those horrible consequences of war - both those obvious and latent.

Isn't this just regular news?

Also, not trying to be callous here, but under 4000 deaths over the course of the invasion and occupation isn't really that many.

Looking at the estimated (since no one really seems to pay much attention) iraqi casualties makes for rather more depressing reading. It also appears that Afghan casualties aren't included.

The hard truth is that soldiers get shot at and bombed. It's kind've what they're paid for (as well as shooting and bombing other people).

How many US helicopters crashed in this war so far? Either they are getting shot down, or they are being built in Iran.
