ENTERTAINMENT: Britney Spears Marries in Las Vegas

Favorite US pop star Britney Spears was married Saturday morning in a quiet Vegas ceremoney, according to People Magazine.

The singer married her childhood sweetheart Jason Alexander at the Little White Wedding Chapel, escorted down the aisle by a hotel bellman. She was attired in jeans and a baseball hat.
The wedding took place after a rushed visit to the Clark County Marriage Bureau to obtain a marriage license. No word on the couple's honeymoon plans.

POP star Britney Spears married a childhood friend from Louisiana in an early-morning ceremony - but quickly arranged to have it annulled, a source close to the singer said tonight.

George Maloof Junior, owner and operator of the Palms Casino Hotel, confirmed that 22-year-old Spears married Jason Allen Alexander of Kentwood, Louisiana, about 5.30am (1330 GMT) Saturday at a Las Vegas wedding chapel.

"Nobody knew it was coming,'' said Maloof, a friend of the Ooops I Did It Again star.

The two arranged an annulment just hours later in the presence of several people, including a Las Vegas lawyer, said a source close to Spears.

The signed annulment will be official when the courts open tomorrow morning, the source said.

Calls to Spears' representatives were not immediately returned.

Spears and Alexander travelled by limousine to the Little White Wedding Chapel on the Strip after a stop at the Ghostbar, a club in the Palms Casino Hotel. The chapel staff told the couple they couldn't get married without a licence, so they were taken to the Clark County Marriage Bureau office in the downtown Las Vegas courthouse. They applied for and were granted the marriage licence, then driven back to the chapel, where they were married.

The bride wore a baseball cap and torn jeans to walk down the aisle escorted by a Palms limousine driver, the source said.

Spears was still staying at the Palms this morning.

She released her fourth album "In the Zone'' in November. It debuted at the top of the album charts. She begins a concert tour on March 2 in San Diego.

I know not that Jason Alexander, but still. I wish I had been partying at Rain in Vegas on New Years...I'd be Mr. Spears right now... and she'd get that anulment over my dead, rich and very happy body!

A spokeswoman for Brittany's record label is quoted as saying " they had second thoughts almost immediately."

It was apparently a joke that had gone "too far" and the marriage will be annulled on Monday.

While I don't think she has set any records for the shortest celebrity marriage, she sure does make the list.
