Microsoft Launches YouTube Rival In Public Beta

Soapbox is the latest example of Microsoft's catch-up strategy to Internet companies that have been faster and nimbler at taking advantage of the popularity of Web 2.0 services, such as social networking and video sharing. YouTube, which Google bought for $1.65 billion, is the most popular video site, and MySpace, which was bought by News Corp., dominates social networking. Microsoft also trails in online search and advertising, with Google the clear leader in both.

Instead of being like most companies just focusing on one thing, microsoft seems to want to run the whole web format. Vista will be able to play games against 360 owners on line soon too.

Do you think soapbox will rival googles youtube, and will ms let pirate docus and such on soapbox. will they have a very strict copyrights on the videos that get put up.

Youtube is market leader at the mo, but will it stay there?

P.s tried to watch a video having a go at ms, and does not seem to be there.
