Northwest Passage 'could open in 2015'

Newly-released military documents suggest that global warming could open up the Northwest Passage to summertime commercial traffic as early as 2015.

That revelation comes as Prime Minister Stephen Harper visits Iqaluit today to assert the federal government's Canadian Arctic sovereignty claim.

The department of national defence position, which clashes with official Environment Canada projections, was included in briefing notes on the Canadian military's expansion plans.

I had no luck finding a similar thread on ATS discussing the growing dispute between Canada and the US over use of the new passage...

In any event, it looks like things are right on schedule....

Looks like Lewis and Clark were Born a couple hundred years too early.

Even scarier is when the military starts making note of this.

...and, of course, in advance of the official story line given by the government scientific bureaucrats.

As much as I realise that the effects of this, and global warming in
total are bad, still an opening of a North-West passage could prove
to be good for certain economies.
