Earlier this evening i saw two very bright satellites in a kind of southern cross formation. These were motionless, the lower one dimmed out first followed by the top one. Afterwards you could only just see them, any idea which ones they could have been or why they dimmed out, maybe rotating their solar panels?

I have never seen these two before so maybe they are new, or spy satellites that got caught in a maneuver that enabled me to see them for a few seconds. They were definitely the brightest things in the sky besides the moon, that is what caught my attention.
