According to sources close to the situation, indictments against the Vice President's Chief-of-Staff Scooter Libby are expected from a D.C. grand jury later today; however, Karl Rove, who was also widely thought to be threatened with indictment will apparently be spared, at least for now. The indictment stems from an investigation into who leaked the identity of Valerie Plame, a former undercover CIA agent, to the press following an unflattering op/ed article published by her husband in the New York Times. A full press conference by the special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald is expected around 2 PM EDT today.

WASHINGTON — The outcome was mixed for the Bush administration in the CIA leak case on Friday, as it became clear that at least one top official would be indicted in the investigation while another would be spared, at least in the short term.

FOX News confirmed that Vice President Dick Cheney's top aide, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, would be indicted in the case, on charges of making false statements to the grand jury, or misleading the grand jury.

The news was better for presidential confidant Karl Rove, at least in the short term. Rove's attorney, Bob Luskin told FOX News that Rove would not be indicted on Friday.

Here's another case where no crime existed before a federal investigation began. It seems odd Libby would purposefully lie to the grand jury then hand over documents exposing the lie. Anyway, it's good news for the administration that it appears Karl Rove will not be charged.

Depending on which source you are listening too, it would appear Rove is not out of the woods yet, at least according to CNN reporters.

Rove is NOT being indicted TODAY. Meaning he could be tomorrow. You might want to change your tittle, DJ, since it is slightly misleading.

I'm not gloating, beleive it or not, to see the downward spiral of this government in the most powerful nation in the world.
After all, i love America.

I am sitting here getting a big chuckle out of this whole issue.

The Crux of the whole investigation has been about investigating alleged leaks and now that it is nearing a close, we are getting what information we have at this time via leaks

Ironic, isn't it?

I said:

It's unlikely he'll be charged anytime soon as new information would have to be produced, most likely from the trial of Libby.

It's not THAT easy dg, a brand new grand jury would have to be empanelled to do this, as today is the last day of the 22 month term of the current one. I think it's pretty safe to say Rove is in the clear now unless some really new, explosive facts come out.

Oh whoopee! Bush will keep his brain out of prison for another day! ALso, using Bush Worship News? Isn't that like using WND or FR? Just kind of a little biased towards "Today Bush nuked the planet killing everyone thus proving he is a God! Worship Worship Worship!"

"Kill 1 person you're a murderer, kill a 1,000 and you're a sodier, kill a 1,000,000 and you're a king, kill them all and you're a God."

Libby was indicted of
  • Obstruction of Justice
  • Making False Statements to the FBI (2 counts)
  • Perjury (2 counts)

He faces up to 5 years per count (so up to 25 years total) in Federal prison if convicted.

He is going to resign just like any good crony:

A source close to the White House told ABC News that Libby's "boxes are packed" and that he will resign from his post after the indictment. Papers containing information pertaining to the investigation will be made public this afternoon while Patrick Fitzgerald, the special prosecutor appointed to lead the investigation, will make remarks on the case at 2 p.m. ET.

Wow, sad. But Rove is suppose to live another day, like Saturday if the Prosecutor gets an extension.

Also, on GOP News, the pundit is going to be killed, he just said.

"The charges come from the cover up not the crime."

"You mean ALLEGED!!!!!" Guy nearly smacks the pundit with a backhand.
