The recent earthquake that caused havoc in Pakistan and India, and claimed more than 40 000 lives, was predicted in April by Tribune Herald astrologer Mahesh Bang.

Bang said this week that the worst was yet to come - but doomsday was still thousands of years away. Religious leaders, too, have pointed to holy scriptures predicting the natural disasters, saying prayer and belief in God will save us.

In the Sunday Tribune on April 3, Bang said that 90% of earthquakes had taken place when Saturn and Jupiter were in retrograde.

"In astrology, the number three indicates Jupiter and the number eight indicates Saturn," he said. Bang said the days on which earthquakes had occurred, when added together, totalled either three or eight. These numbers he said, represented Jupiter and Saturn.

The latest earthquake took place on Saturday, October 8. Not only did the number eight relate to Saturn, Bang said, but Saturday was also Saturn's Day.

"Last Saturday Jupiter, which was in the Zodiac Virgo sign, came into the Libra Zodiac sign - and this move caused the earthquake," Bang said.
