The case on the murder of 'God's Banker', Roberto Calvi, has been reopened today as new evidence has been brought to light ending with 5 people going on trial for his murder. Calvi had links to the mafia and also the now defunct Italian Masonic lodge - Propaganda Due or P2 as it is commonly known.
Five people have gone on trial in Rome for the 1982 murder in London of Italian banker Roberto Calvi. The former head of the Banco Ambrosiano, Calvi was known as "God's Banker" because of his links to the Vatican's finances.

However, he is also thought to have been linked to the Mafia and a shadowy freemasonry organisation called Propaganda 2. Calvi was found hanged under Blackfriars Bridge on the River Thames, with bricks and thousands of pounds in his pockets.

A London coroner originally ruled that he had committed suicide after his bank failed and he had fled Italy. But prosecutors who reopened the case in 2002 have ruled out suicide.

This should be a very interesting piece of news to watch. Calvi is said to have been eliminated by either the Vatican, the Mob or the Masons. This trial may well open up a few old wounds that many would wish to be left well alone.

I personally believe that his links with the Holy See are what saw him off, possibly skimming cash from them, laundering it through the mob and paying it to himself. Hopefully we'll find out a bit more now new evidence is being found.
