Mars lander crash.

I don't know if you guys already have asked this question, but I've always wanted to know if that crash a few years back was just a cover up for something. The problem (From what I've heard and read) is that the calculations were done in feet, but the lander was programed in meters. Now, any scientist in the world now uses the metric scale for EVERYTHING. I think that maybe the lander found something that the wonderful officials don't want us to know about, so they make up this completely believeable(at least to the main stream public who know nothing of scientific affairs) story of how it was programmed wrong. Is the lander still on mars? Could it be looking at the face, or even the pyraminds right on the red planet's surface? I want to know what everyone thinks.
