U.S blackmailing India,Pakistan for the Iran pipeline deal

What does Bush want?.WHy cant he leave this situation and by doing this U.S has lost my trust forever.

"Rice, who has publicly opposed the project, reiterated Washington's position that the proposed pipeline, which will be bringing Iranian gas to India through Pakistan, is against US laws," Dawn reported on Monday.

The Iran and Libya Sanctions Act (ILSA) forbids more than $20 million of investment in Iranian oil and gas projects. The violator can be deprived of US economic assistance and may also face sanctions.

It's against US laws for other countries to deal with Iran?
Why is the US telling other countries who they can do business with?
I can understand withdrawing economic assistance but placing sanctions against a country because they do business with someone you don't like is wrong.
