Palestinians and Israelis Skirmish Atop the Temple Mount

By CHRISTINE HAUSER
Published: June 6, 2005

JERUSALEM, June 6 - At least five people were slightly injured and a Palestinian was arrested today when the Israeli police confronted Palestinians throwing rocks at Jews at one of Jerusalem's holiest sites.

The brief flare-up took place at the Temple Mount, revered by Jews as the site of the two Jewish temples destroyed in ancient times. The spot is sacred to Muslims as the Haram al Sharif, which contains Al Aksa mosque and the Dome of the Rock.

While today's disturbance was relatively minor, it took place at a site that has often been a tinderbox in a city whose status remains one of the most complex and delicate issues between Israelis and Palestinians, where the smallest eruptions of tension can quickly draw reaction from leaders on both sides. The mount is considered the place where the second intifada began in 2000, after Ariel Sharon, then the opposition leader but now the prime minister, visited it. The next day, the police fired at stone-throwing protesters, killing several. Today's confrontation took on added significance because it fell on Jerusalem Day, a national holiday marking Israel's capture of East Jerusalem from Jordan in the 1967 war. Many Israelis visit the city in groups or on school trips for the holiday.

This is particularly of interest to me as I am a student of Bible prophecy, especially concerning end-time events, ie: the Rapture and second coming of Christ. It appears that this may be an escalation of the rhetoric coming out of Jerusalem from conservative and ultra-conservative Jews who are making it plain they mean to do all in their power to destroy the Temple of the Rock in order to rebuild the ancient Temple of Soloman which once stood on the same site.

Of course, in Christian prophecy, the rebuiding of the Jewish Temple is the last remaining barrier to the return of Jesus and the rapture of the church.

yeah i can really see those 2 nations (palestine & Israel) existing together in the future

We have a big problem here folks.

Palestinians are willing to kill and to die to see Palestine become a Nation.
Israel will never give them this land, unless Israel gets The Temple Mount, it is the #1 most historic location to them, basically it is their Mecca.
Palestinians claim the land to be their #3 most holy site.

IMO, I think that Israel SHOULD get the Temple in a trade. Arafat said "NO WAY", but now we have M. Abbas ... maybe he will offer the trade, instead of risking the lives of more of his people. Its simple, give up the land where the temple 3 is going to be , and we will give your people what you want. Isreal will give you, Palestine.

Deal ?

People, if they can not reach an agreement...

ok. what happens when 2 soverign nations want the same peice of land?

They go to WAR.

Look at Kashmir. nuff said
