Do air traffic controllers work for the FAA? If so ... I think my flying days are over.

Seriously .. what ever happened to just hiring whoever is best for the job and not anything else?

FAA DEI Hiring People With Severe Psychiatric Disabilities

he Federal Aviation Administration is actively recruiting workers who suffer "severe intellectual" disabilities, psychiatric problems and other mental and physical conditions under a diversity and inclusion hiring initiative spelled out on the agency’s website.

"Targeted disabilities are those disabilities that the Federal government, as a matter of policy, has identified for special emphasis in recruitment and hiring," the FAA’s website states. "They include hearing, vision, missing extremities, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability and dwarfism."

The initiative is part of the FAA’s "Diversity and Inclusion" hiring plan, which claims "diversity is integral to achieving FAA's mission of ensuring safe and efficient travel across our nation and beyond." The FAA’s website shows the agency’s guidelines on diversity hiring were last updated on March 23, 2022

So hiring people that are physically or mentally incapable of doing the job will make air travel safe how? Yea, hire that blind person to be an airtraffic controller! The NFL and MLB can't hire all the vision impaired!

I am a fairly stable and sound logical thinking person, I have done jobs in my life that many people considered dangerous and it didnt bother me.

You couldnt pay me enough to handle that stress load, if there is 1 job that they should never lower the bar for its ATC.

Yeah, not everyone watches Fox news 24/7. And duplicate threads on ATS are fairly common, the mods will fix it. It's nothing to write home about.

But quite frankly, every single thread is parroting some source, so there is that. Well unless it's a short story or someone's musings etc.

But thanks OP for the heads up. Even though I myself have resolved never to fly again, it's nice to know that the FAA has our best interests at heart. l'm hoping at least that the employees won't be placed in extreme critical positions.

FAA employees work from locations throughout the nation — at airports, regional offices and centers, and our headquarters in Washington, D.C. As a large-scale organization with a far-reaching and critical mission, FAA employs a wide array of technical, industrial and business professionals. Our workforce includes:

Air Traffic Controllers
Aviation Safety Inspectors
Airways Transportation Systems Specialists
Community Planners
Security Inspectors
Engineers
Program Managers
Acquisition Specialists
Contract Specialists
Human Resources Professionals
Technicians

OH, OH, Oh, oh.....I see one, I see one......Community Planners.....

No worries then, it's all good.

As with the Covid-19 vaccines, people who see, or are told about this thread, can't say they haven't been warned.

Thank-you!

I will now consider driving on next month's trip, instead of flying. Ohare is probably hiring migrants for runway duties anyway. Very dangerous.

Stop being bigoted; people with disabilities deserve to be employable and take care of themselves. None of them want to be air traffic controllers; they just want to be human adults who contribute to society. The FAA have planty of jobs that they are qualified for with reasonable accomplishments. They just need people to see past their bigotry and give them a chance.... FAA is doing the right thing here.

This has to be part of the 15 minute cities thing.

Make air travel not worth the risk, keep people where you want them.

The Federal Government has been hiring disabled people for all positions since Republican President George H.W. Bush mandated their equal treatment in 1990.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Unless DEI hires are programming the robots.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.
