It's the honorable thing to do.

“No one in this House is above any of us. Therefore I must step down as your speaker,” Rota said in Parliament. “I reiterate my profound regret for my error in recognizing an individual in the House during the joint address to Parliament of President Zelenskyy.

“That public recognition has caused pain to individuals and communities, including to the Jewish community in Canada and around the world in addition to Nazi survivors in Poland among other nations. I accept full responsibility for my actions,” he added.

Fall guy.

nationalpost.com...

Anyone with the remotest understanding of how Ottawa works, and doesn’t, knows that this is a stretch.

The Speaker’s Office has the authority to invite a guest to the House. However, even so, they would do necessary background and other checks. And they would know to run it by PCO and PMO. Just keep all the powers-that-be in the loop; especially for a guest like Zelenskyy, who operates in a highly complex global environment.

Either Rota went rogue, as his statement of apology suggests, or he worked with PMO and PCO, which reality and past practice would point to as being the more likely possibility.

You are being comically obtuse and for whatever reason defending Trudeau (are you family?).
Anyone with ANY understanding of history should have known. This isn't some sneaky, "Oh how in the world did he get through" situation. He was brought with Zelensky to Trudeau before the parliament event and personally met. This wasn't some guy in a crowd of veterans. It was this guy being honored for his "service" fighting WW2 russians -- no vetting required.

It is not only a clear scapegoat to remove any attention from Justin "blackface" Trudeau, but also pretty telling that Ukraine might actually be ok with nazis. His life of nazi-ing and books on the subject were no secret either.

My only concern is why you have such a huge dog in the fight defending it. One might get suspicious that you have some ties or NEED to shill for Trudeau. Just condemn it already and move on. "...b b b but I looove him" will even suffice.

Going , Going , Gone ...........He's Outta there !

" Canada’s Speaker of the House Resigns over Honouring Nazi Soldier in Parliament as Trudeau Accused of Hiding "

" However, others, including Conservative opposition party leader Pierre Poilievre said that Trudeau should accept part of the blame for the scandal, arguing that it is his government’s responsibility to vet all guests of the parliament for a state visit such as Zelensky’s last week.

Poilievre also criticised Trudeau for apparently ducking question time for the second straight day, asking: “Where is the prime minister? Why is he hiding?”

“Our nation’s reputation is in tatters. Will he stand up and apologize for this mess he helped create?” he continued. “Has there ever been a greater diplomatic embarrassment in the history of our country? I mean it literally. In coffee shops, in gyms and businesses and boardrooms around the world, people are reading about this massive and shameful disgrace that unfolded under the watch of a Liberal Speaker and a Liberal prime minister.

“And yet he can’t even show up for work. Where is he? Why is he hiding under a rock today?”

It's because they are actual Nazis. Many went to hide in Ukraine following WWII.

The Azov Battalion is a State sanctioned Nazi national guard unit.

They don't hide it, everyone has known about it the whole time.

It's just conveniently ignored by western media because they need to launder money through Ukraine.

An article from the Guardian from 2014 before the “memory hole”.

www.theguardian.com...

Washington's role in Ukraine is different only in its implications for the rest of us. For the first time since the Reagan years, the US is threatening to take the world to war. With eastern Europe and the Balkans now military outposts of Nato, the last "buffer state" bordering Russia – Ukraine – is being torn apart by fascist forces unleashed by the US and the EU. We in the west are now backing neo-Nazis in a country where Ukrainian Nazis backed Hitler.

The speaker resigning is just a way for Trudeau to deflect blame. Vetting had to of occurred on many levels for that to happen. They all knew who this guy was. All 338 MPs gave him a standing ovation!
Trudeau of course will never apologize and will continue to deflect blame and call it Russian disinformation, as he often does when he's in hot water.
All 338 MPs need to resign period. They all clapped and celebrated. Freeland's grandfather was a Nazi as well.
Trudeau and all MPs still support giving Zelensky billions more too going forward! So what does that tell you?
In a normal country, this type of thing would collapse the whole government. Which still may happen, but we'll see.
Our country is completely corrupted to the core.
All 338 MPs should resign immediately.
Military should arrest them all, and hold new elections for MPs that are Canada first.
Then an election for PM
Then drain the swamp
Then rebuild the country to the greatness it once was.

Not to mention before 2021 it was Western media warning about these very people and what a serious problem they were, usually trying to link it to Trump.

Not too much of a surprise though. It's pretty obvious these days that the authoritarian Left has a soft spot for China. They admire China's one-party ironclad control over every aspect of their citizens' lives. The Nazis had a similar arrangement. The Left embraces Nazi brownshirt violence against their political opposition. It only makes sense that the left secretly admires Nazis and will come out to defend them in the right circumstances.
