If time is money then you would lose a lot of money with electric car charging times.

Electric prices are going up not down, this is not sustainable.

If we move toward nuclear power, maybe but until then this will be another toy for the rich!

Totally agree, they have a purpose though after looking into the maths, they truly are a fad.

People as you say can’t understand how damaging lithium mines are.

Though the human cost is unconscionable as they use slave child labour.

It would be funny to see a Tesla with a Texas long horns on the bonnet, though I would consider them a wanker.

It’s not sustainable, though when I talk about nuclear to a relative who is a uni lecturer he can only see the bad, and thinks wind and solar are our saviours.

I ask don’t you think we should maintain backups like coal power stations he says they pollute too much.

I then ask what about the toxic li ion batteries that can’t be recycled, and they will pollut groundwater when in landfill.

He goes the will sort this out. I asked well don’t you think there should be a solution to recycle before a company releases toxic chemicals into the market.

He says it’s for the benefit of mankind, we’ll worry about the consequences later.

Sort of a mental out look.

Let us not put all eggs into battery only powered transport or any in more nuclear power plants. I would only buy a hybrid auto that uses battery AND liquid fuels. Although hybrids more spendy also more resilient as aging grid will not be able to handle increased electric loads.

BREAKING: Solar energy+ can be stored in hemp batteries still in development stage; energy storage like batteries a rapidly evolving technology.

Safer batteries for storage for home and EVs some plant sourced like hemp R&D accelerating now long overdue. Non mind elevating member of the Cannabis family Industrial Hemp a graphene substitute from which batteries can be made. One source reports HEMP batteries can be made for up to 200x less than lithium ion and are not fire prone.

Patents filed on hemp sourced batteries include one by David Mitlin quoted in International Business Times: '..for energy storage, it works just as well as graphene.'

Warning about all electric car particularly if battery only energy policy: David Blume, AlcoholCanBeAGas.com also name of his book stated on national radio show in 2022 batteries only WILL NOT be able to supply 100% of transport needs: liquid fuels including biofuels and BATTERY powered aka HYBRID vehicles will be requisite.

Before buying new auto, ponder: buy only hybrids: battery AND liquid fuels? Hybrids usually more spendy, conundrum.

Researching energy for 50+ years Blume alerts us that the electric power grid will not be able to carry electricity for expanded residential, commercial, industrial use and vehicles due to aging infrastructure+. (Recent infrastructure update included in Fed legislation passed easier said than done IMO.)

By the way if vacationers or those on a business or music venue trip return home with EV battery discharged, fire racing over hill: how escape with drained OR DEAD battery?

EV batteries cost $4k-12k take hours to replace can only be done only by professionals. Rolling brown-outs were recently allowed by some state PUCs permitting utilities in times of fire+ hazards to turn off power.

Utilities in states like CA have turned off electricity for periods: PG&E in CA went bankrupt partly due to NOT turning off grid a couple years ago-fires cost spendy CA home replacement. Of course still in business another guaranteed profit monopoly: +/-85% of USA ratepayers customers of privately owned most short-sighted utilities aka Investor Owned Utilities IOUs.

Apparently it was not in IOU best interest to develop distributed generation in fact terming the decentralization movement as disruptive tech!

Ratepayers lost due to many level leadership vacuums. Read Rocky Mountain Institute’s: Small Is Profitable: 207 reasons why distributed energy benefits utilities by Lovins et al; free online.

Publicly owned utilities owned by Ratepayers are 3: MUNIs municipally owned like Seattle City Light, in 2005, 'first electric utility in US to fully offset all its carbon emissions and has remained carbon neutral every year since;' PUDs People’s Utility Districts; and RECs Rural Electric Cooperatives.

Do we need more utilities owned by a more edified public willing to usher in the great long awaited transition to maximum conservation away from fossils and high level radioactive waste that takes centuries to even have a toxic effect half-life?

Should more small utilities owned by Ratepayers merge to maximize innovative thinking, greater buying power?

Historically public entities selling bonds when purchasing energy systems are able to show better return on investment ROI due to interest rates+ enjoyed by Ratepayer owned utilities so that solar arrays or wind generators pay off faster. American Public Power Assn. serves 2000+ communities, cities. www.publicpower.org...

Lithium ion batteries in EVs can cause fires some needing 5,000 to 10,000 gal. water to extinguish. EV fires can re-ignite even when burned vehicle hauled on flat bed trucks by fire departments. Many fire departments not even trained yet how to extinguish these fires. Further, if EV fire at a campground ignites, some have self ignited parked on a CA street, could start forest fire?

Also concerned about quakes predicted: damage to houses+ property excluded from insurance policies unless expensive rider added. If a nuclear accident occurred, people could be left homeless as most home hazard insurance policies do NOT cover nuclear accidents. Will Feds i.e. tax payers foot bills for more nuclear plant subsidies-trying to clean up Dead Zones brown fields, relocate communities?

Nuclear plant industry was protected from maximum liability decades ago via Price-Anderson Act which allowed limited liability. Otherwise 90+ nuclear power plants probably would not be operating in USA. Cost of decommissioning a nuke usually exceeds the original construction cost.

Let us not put all eggs into battery only powered transport or any in more nuclear power plants. Do not incentivize EVs until safer batteries ready. a reply to: robsmith

For an ALL hemp battery containing no lithium ion see Clayton Turner's video.

ps his email has changed from one mentioned a year ago. Let's go full steam ahead R&D for an all hemp battery; could be used with liquid hemp fuel?

A Southern Gov candidate ran around his state 2 decades ago running on hemp fuel.

Hemp for more victory really dawlinks.

how about we dont need to use electric crap. has everyone forgot that volcanoes have been spewing carbon monoxide into the atmosphere for however billions of years. this is call government making an exscuse to control and kill more populations off. if the entire world doesnt change to electric then were screwed. might as well start wiping your own ass with leaves
