This is why 2 pilots are always required.

Qatar known to be a bit of a hard employer, have almost lost an aircraft as one pilot lost his situational awareness, and was 16 seconds from hitting the ocean.

American trained air transport pilots are trained to rely on basic pilotage skills first and foremost, especially around take-offs and landings. That means having eyes outside the cockpit and making real-time judgments about altitude, airspeed, attitude, etc. This is why many US pilots were able to avoid the 737Max accidents that happened in other countries. Many foreign trained pilots are trained to just dial in the numbers in the autopilot and let the airplane fly itself. This has lead to a number of accidents and near accidents around departures and approaches. This could be one of those.

Agreed, there’s nothing like looking out at your surroundings.

Though I think Qatar are pushing for one pilot only, this sets a good example why two pilots are nescessary.

Though just a quick google search has many reports of fatigue issues, over worked pilots at Qatar.

They would rather have no pilots with operators flying a few planes each like drones. The only reason why they don't is that people are not ready for it.
