WASHINGTON — It became a regular litany of grievances from President Donald J. Trump and his supporters: The investigation into his 2016 campaign’s ties to Russia was a witch hunt, they maintained, that had been opened without any solid basis, went on too long and found no proof of collusion.

Egged on by Mr. Trump, Attorney General William P. Barr set out in 2019 to dig into their shared theory that the Russia investigation likely stemmed from a conspiracy by intelligence or law enforcement agencies. To lead the inquiry, Mr. Barr turned to a hard-nosed prosecutor named John H. Durham, and later granted him special counsel status to carry on after Mr. Trump left office.

But after almost four years — far longer than the Russia investigation itself — Mr. Durham’s work is coming to an end without uncovering anything like the deep state plot alleged by Mr. Trump and suspected by Mr. Barr.

It's kind of funny how the Republicans in the House are creating a subcommittee to investigate politicization of the DOJ, and yet we keep finding evidence that any politicization seems to be to the benefit of Trump. Be it an FBI agent taking bribes from Russia to spike an investigation into Trump and releasing damaging information on Hillary right before the 2020 election or now this new information coming out about the Durham probe.

Turns out that Barr and Durham were running a very biased investigation that flaunted legal ethics so greatly, Durham's top prosecutors on the team quit.

Perhaps the most interesting thing that's been revealed occurred in 2019. In October of that year it was reported by the media that Durham's investigation had evolved into a criminal investigation but no other details were known. At the time it was assumed that Durham had discovered criminal wrongdoing on the part of the CIA or FBI but nothing ever ended up coming from it.

It turns out what actually happened is that while Barr and Durham were in Italy they were provided evidence by Italian intelligence that Trump had committed financial crimes. Despite the fact that these crimes seemingly had nothing to do with Durham's investigation, Barr placed Durham in charge of the investigation. It is currently unknown what Barr and Durham uncovered in Italy as it seems to have been swept under the rug.

It is however amusing that the first, and seemingly only evidence, of criminal wrongdoing that Durham uncovered was in regards to Trump. But this is just one aspect of a four year investigation that has been politically biased since day one and has ruined the reputation of a formerly well regarded prosecutor.

MOD NOTE
Guess what? This is not the MUD PIT...

So Hillary's team didn't use Fusion GPS to open FBI investigation into Trump, then Clinesmith didn't lie to the FISA court to get the warrant?

I'll agree that Durham was controlled opposition, his job was to find nothing, and he did it well. But that doesn't change what really happened. this is a partisan hack thread.

Was Adam Goldman involved in writing that NYT story that you linked?

Political corruption in DC? I'm so shocked!

It just goes to show it doesn't matter if you're a career politician or the new kid on the block, integrity in any form is not allowed......and if the dogs get a whiff of it they'll hunt you down and persecute you 24/7/365. Just like they're doing to poor old Pedo Pete.

Just because Durham didn't find evidence of what you wanted doesn't mean he was controlled opposition. He went forward with charges his team knew wouldn't stick so Barr could hold his press conferences saying how things were worse than he ever expected, in an attempt to influence the 2020 election. Durham literally destroyed the reputation he had built to through his entire career in an attempt to get the Dems and make Trump look good.

My advice is to stop living in the past, Trump is no longer president.

We have a real criminal in the Oval office right now.

No he didn't. In fact he said he found clear evidence of criminal misconduct but couldn't prosecute because Trump was the President.

It seems to me politicization of the DOJ is pretty current considering the House is starting a subcommittee to investigate it. Plus, the Durham investigation is still technically ongoing.

Barr said they didn't find any irregularities in the 2020 election either. Because they didn't actually look into anything. Zero FBI inquiries.

Barr is a deep state swamp lackey and always was.

As far as the Russia hoax, there's already more public evidence of that then there is of human influenced climate change.

He said that, but the report contained zero evidence to support it. Just like Schiff's claims.

The OP linked the NYT. They got a Pulitzer for their contrived story that ‘broke’ the ‘Russia, Russia, Russia!’ collusion theory to the public.
Now the word is coming out that the FBI wrote the script for Adam Goldman’s stories.
There is a conspiracy all right… not a theory.

Before I dive in, I'll post this.

Mr. Barr, Mr. Durham and Ms. Dannehy declined to comment. The current and former officials who discussed the investigation all spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the legal, political and intelligence sensitivities surrounding the topic.

This entire OP is conjecture and opinion based on the musings of a hyperpartisan.

Remember...former Special Counsel Robert Mueller acknowledged in his report that investigators did not find evidence of a conspiracy between Trump’s campaign and the Russians in 2016 – which the FBI probed extensively. (Pappas et al)

More importantly, both Horowitz and Durham have uncovered FISA abuse and the whole point of the investigation was a criminal probe on those issues. At no point was it directed at Trump.

Lets be honest, the titled OP should say, Flaws in understanding the Durham investigation by authors and OPs who don't have all the answers.

At the end of the day, the FBI and DOJ lacked probable cause to spy on Trump.

Durham will finish up, however with a GOP house you just never know...

It is currently unknown what Barr and Durham uncovered in Italy as it seems to have been swept under the rug.

I hope Special Counsel Jack Smith has access to the Italian info.

Imagine being so wrapped up into dwelling on Trump’s imaginary and Dem manufactured crimes, that you purposely look the other way on Biden’s real and factual crimes.

So what happened to the proof of collusion (other than 2nd hand lies and 3rd hand hearsay)? 😁

And nobody's come up with "influenced" vote totals !😁
