Ukraine won't honour the ceasefire. They've been persecuting the Orthodox Church for years.

If I had been invaded, I’m sure I’d decide what conditions I’d honor a ceasefire.

The only thing I’d see as messed up is if they agreeed and didn’t honor. But it’s up to them if they want to partake.

Like the Minsk Agreements.

It is really bad when people don't keep their word.

Moscow has been persecuting religions since the The Bolshevik Revolution. And continues to this day.

One also has to ask the question on how Patriarch Kirill Head Of The Russian Orthodox Church can have amassed a personal fortune of $4 billion.

They've already rejected it.

I agree, they don't have to agree.

When this thread started, we didn't know that they rejected it, though.

It’s certainly not a good look.

Even after Russia invaded Crimea it’s not going to give people a lot of faith if you go back on your word.

Anyone ever wonder if Putin and Z are really good friends and are in a dark room in a cave somewhere drinking beers and laughing their butts off while counting their money?

No? Just me?

I think you misspelled Putin.

It's spelled B-i-d-e-n.

ETA: Not to say Putin isn't doing the same, just not with Z.

Yea, I didn’t know they already rejected it either.

Well, if Russia does still do a ceasefire and Ukraine attacks, it will certainly be bad for optics. We’ll see what happens.

There was a reason for that.

You started your bolding a word late. The site specifically refers to the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The site you cited believes that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church canonically belongs to the Moscow Patriarchate. Which, there are still Orthodox Churches in Ukraine that swear allegiance to the Moscow Patriarchate.

There has been a crackdown on these churches due to them being used by separatists and Russian agents to recruit for Russia's war against Ukraine.

So the Ukrainian government is not persecuting against the religion that the majority of their population belong to.

I don’t necessarily disagree with everything in that video. But it’s hard to take him seriously when he said this was the most decisive military victories in modern times. He said Russia is wrapping it up now and got everything they were looking for.

So was the push for Kiev at the beginning just a bluff?

I think there have been plenty of obvious blunders, most surrounding their logistics.

Will they ultimately “win” with more concessions? Probably. But I wouldn’t say it’s some modern marvel.

Russia exposed to at least some degree, they’re a paper tiger without nukes. I’m a conventional war they severely underperformed and got a bloody nose from a far smaller neighbor fighting with hand me downs.

That's exactly what they're doing. They are doing it to BOTH the UOC and the UOC-MP:

The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights pointed to the oppression of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by certain state structures
U krainian Orthodox Church

Yep.

like the Christmas miracle of WW2 when the nazis and allies observed some we aren't so different time. What A joke and a half…maybe this cease fire will afford the Ukrainians time to organize and send MORE s and d teams inside Russia, really get things cooking…

Putin will entertain the world with a few more fireworks, something puzzling, Russia is keeping its distaste concerning western involvement close to the vest…This can only be to enhance the element of surprise should he be 'forced' to use it..in other words I feel Putin is being extremely reserved in his criticism of the west…trying to draw us further in..maybe..

I don't know its like they went stoic after the first public US aid went to Ukraine..indeed, they don't seem to re state their position much, maybe something to the not bluffing generalization..deep cultural trait possibly..the more I learn about their country and politics the more Id really like to see some common sense prevail where the taking of life is concerned…Ill never be ok with this Russian regime primarily because of how they treat their troopers..its sub human..The invasion and destruction of Ukraine is terrible, but if one really considers what the Russian military is going through as far as not having any idea, its one of the worst things I can imagine.

Piece together moral strategies concocted by fat vodka drunks..Clown world for real.

I don't recall a "push for Kiev".

The whole purpose of the incursion was to liberate Eastern Ukraine and grant them independence from the Western Nazis.

Sad that in the 21st century, people have to deal with this crap but here we are.

Ummm...get real...they are fighting the military strength of the entirety of NATO...and have successfully drained the majority of the armaments of said...

Nato couldn't field an effective force for two days...should it get real...they've burned through their ammunition and their heavy weaponry...sending it to Ukraine...

So...who's the paper tiger...?

You don’t remember a convoy sitting outside Kiev that came from Belarus?

And I won’t be surprised if they get the eastern slice of Ukraine. But at what cost?

Do you think they did it to defend those people? Or do they want a land strip to Crimea where they solidified their Black Sea fleet which was on lease and up in the air with Ukraine’s bid to lean towards the west?

I don’t believe the altruistic motive for Russia any more than I believe it in the west who is using Ukraine to weaken Russia via proxy.

There rarely is altruism in war though, and I’d be willing to bet this one is void of it. I can appreciate Ukraine fighting off invaders, even if their government is and was far from perfect. No matter how messed up your government and it’s history, you’re almost always going to fight invaders.
