I didn't like this World Cup. 90% of the games were boring. Qatar was an unsuitable host. But the final Argentina vs France will go down in history as the best World Cup final to date. And as one of the best football matches in general. I have seen countless matches and - consciously - all finals since 1982. This match was a special one. Which was certainly also due to the story and the character of Lionel Messi. I was never a fan but that he is one of the best of all time is beyond question. This World Cup has made me a fan. His performance was phenomenal. With this game he entered the Olymp and even overtook Maradona - in my opinion.

But the most beautiful thing is the reaction of the fans. A collective freak-out. In Europe and South America, such successes go down in the social memory, they are really relevant events. You can see the fundamental importance of football from the attached videos. There is no more powerful sport.

Who among the dear ATS members also watched the game? Argentina deserved it, didn't they?

EDIT:

The miracle of Bern
When Germany sensationally won the World Cup in 1954 (3:2 against Hungary), it had an enormous and positive impact on society, it restored the Germans' self-confidence (after WW2) and is one of the factors that eventually led to the "Wirtschaftswunder".

You can rip your shirt off!

(Psst ... it's Qatar,,,, is the male nipple OK?
Not sure really, read everything again.)

Apparently, but flip, it was actually a super World Cup.

No, I must say, well done Qatar!

organizationally absolutely. but they bought the world cup. the whole circus. in qatar there are rules that do not correspond to the values propagated by fifa. it's all about money. which games will be remembered besides the final?

They really did deserve it. His footwork was amazing. And at his age too.
Just a shame it had to go down to penalties. That is always so nervy.
A lot of memes saying it wasn't Argentina V France but Argentina V Africa. . .

The male nipple may be OK, but I wouldn't exactly take out my wiener and windmill it about.

The patriarchy is symbolic only.

Only one was born in Africa, that I know of (Eduardo Camavinga was born in Angola. ) However a lot of them have parents that were born in Africa: Cameroon, Congo, Senegal, Mali, etc. Not that it matters.
Your question piqued my curiosity.

I was merely referencing the memes.

right, it doesn't mater.(;
another interesting question: why teams from asia never achieve anything at world cups? perfectly organized, technically skilled, athletic, drilled. actually the best preconditions.

South Korea did very well this time. Made it to round of 16.
And they had a real chance to win the Cup in 2002 when they hosted. Made it to 4th place, the third place playoff match.

Japan also did well and made it to roun of 16 too. both only one match away from quarter finals.
So kinda wrong there maybe?

Especially since the tournament starts out with 64 teams. So anyone hanging in until there are only 16 or less is pretty good.
