I was at the "Chinese shop" and they were selling this Korean seaweed snack.

Great wasabi-taste, very little calories and R20 for three packs.

Electricity goes off in SA, but I snack to my downloaded movie.

Oh, it's like green squares in a pile.

And in the dark I notice ... a sachet.

Extra spice, yeah cut it open and throw it over.

Flip, but this is crunchy ... like glass ... crunch, crunch.

Lights on - mommy, I ate the silica gel preservative packet.

It clearly says: DO NOT EAT.

Make myself sick.

Only to discover, it's inert, it passes right through you.

From Healthline.com:

Sometimes, adults may mistake silica gel packets for salt or sugar packets.

So there we go.

Sounds like if you didn't choke on it or get nauseous from it you'll be fine. Great story though and lesson learned!

Seaweed Snacks Are People... very funny!
I used to eat the wasabi Korean seaweed snacks all the time. I forgot all about them until you brought this up. The sesame ones were delicious, too.

Yea I don’t mind the odd nori sheet here or there. Duel purpose because my fish also love them.
When he described the meal as a pile of green squares my mind went straight to soylent.

You're right. It is inert. At least you did it by mistake unlike the guy in this video who was "sticking it to the man".

Does it still contain the listening device or did it dissolve?

Well I didn't expect the story to go that way 😂
To be honest it's one of the things I do my best to avoid eating the sachets in packets bit paro about that ... I did however accidentally consume some of the contents of those blue freezer gel bags when it tore open in a cooler box earlier this year .... I was fine though .. quick google tell me if it's poisonous

The year is 1972 and my mom just flew from Seoul Korea to the backwoods of Pennsylvania.
This was her first time in the US and it might as well have been Mars.

She said the smells and sights of the foods made her want to vomit. She was barely 90lbs and losing weight from not eating. She managed to buy a few Korean foods, one of them being Kim paper, also know as seaweed paper. It is more like what sushi is rolled in and not already prepared like what you had.

My relatives were in shock and horror when they saw her eating “black paper”. To prepare the seaweed you run it over a flame to char it just a bit. The smell is akin to burnt ocean 😂

I’m so glad I live in a world where different foods are no longer stigmatized.
