For those that are giving Halloween candy out this year what are you giving out?

I’ve always been a full sized candy giver. We don’t get a lot of trick or treaters so I go all out.
One year I got a lot of the king sized snickers and peanut butter cups. I found out that kids these days
Do NOT like chocolate at all. They prefer air heads, sweet tarts, sour patch kids, and almost any other flavored candy
Over any kind of chocolate. That sure has changed. When I was young we thought we hit the jackpot if we got a snickers, Twix or Reeses.
This was also back in the day when some people would give out pennies and quarters. Lol..

One year I got little toys to go with the candy again, kids aren’t into that either, they want the pure sugar flavored cheap candy.
If I had to rank them I would say sour patch and skittles were the two most taken. Ring pops were huge hits too.

Also, if you don’t or aren’t able to give candy out, this is no dig to you.

After i have had a few beers all the candy will be gone. eaten by me.

So i just hand out some coins instead.

Also remember getting lots of coins as a kid, sometimes it would add up to something like 40 bucks, so not bad.

I keep seeing these candy things on the news but I always have it muted.
I'm going to try and find those to give away.

That’s why us Gen X’s knew to bring pillowcases, for those heavy quarters!

This year we cant but normally I support this heathen holiday Samain, here, called "Rubengeister" by giving out little gummi bear packs, candy / chocolate and sometimes 50c coin when they actually make an effort to sing. Traditions might vary in the US.

It has been less visits the last years because daughter and me were not at home, going out ourselves to collect candy. But the landlords will let the kids in and we deposit a little basket with small treats for them to grab one. It worked with no plundering, yet.

The money she get's, she spends to charity on Christmas eve for children in need. It was her own idea to do that ♥. And I get to eat candy too

I’d totally be up for those gummy bears!!

Last year every single trick or treater that came to my house said thank you. It was the most polite group of kids I’ve ever seen, literally every single one!
Haven’t had any singers yet, if I did I’d give them a lot more!

Singing is on the decline but I support it with the coins. I never say they all get one if they sing, but they kind of know it by now.

Costumes is not a thing here though, very seldom but it feels like getting more. Maybe it's globalisation / American trend. Because the word "Helloween" is now used more often than our own. I think it's more attractive to the kids how you do it in the US of A and that might be the reason they adapt / adopt that.

Nothing better than seeing happy children having fun, so I gladly support it. Especially after the last two years.

I have always loved Halloween, but one of the few downsides of living on acreage is you don't get Trick-or-treaters coming down your road, so I haven't passed out candy in years.

The last time I did I realized that kids were not into chocolate bars like we were as kids. I thought I hit the gold mine if I found a house that gave out the name brand chocolate bars. I never was a boiled sweet/hard candy eater and those always went to my dad.

It's funny how tastes change from generation to generation.

When I was a kid you had to have a plan with your house or the car parked in a position you could dump the full bags or pumpkin buckets and head back out to fill them up on the next streets.

I used to clean up at Halloween. Gosh those were the best days. I'm so glad I was a Gen Xer.

I think we got to enjoy Halloween like no other generation. I totally agree, we had it the best.
We heard about a few razors and pins in candy but for the most part it was an innocent time.
Costumes were cheap or homemade and kids could Trick or treat WITHOUT parents!
Those were the good times.

Where do you live?
I lived in Germany twice back in the 80s and when I lived in Rhineland-Palatinate the locals did a sort of Halloween but didn't call it Rubengeister. For the life of me I can't recall what it was called. They also did Fasching which had elements of going house to house for treats.

I think I remember you are a military brat too!

I lived in Wiesbaden and then in Kaiserslautern. Absolutely loved it! And they were slightly different traditions between the two regions down on the economy too.

I know you took advantage of the military base usually having Trick-or-treating on a different day than off base, so you got to go out for candy twice.

Bavaria. It has many different names and depends on local tradition.

Fasching starts 11.11 officially but the real fasching is in February. That's our time to put up costumes. Trick and treating is less a thing here during that. Most of the time children get a lot of candy from parades:

Parades in every town with different themed parade cars and people throwing candy into the crowd and handing out beer to adult (16+) bystanders. A frivolous time for sure. Lot's of alcohol and scandals.

I dislike it but participate for my daughter. This year I could not attend but I am hooked on steam punk because of a friend who brought me into the topic. He's new to it too and we're starting making costumes. Me only in my head currently because I am not at home but I look forward to it.

I love Bavaria! So beautiful.

Yes, Fasching was during Carnival time, so February usually, and as a young teen I didn't participate much in it downtown probably because it was more for adults.

Thanks for the information. I love this sort of stuff.
Germany has a lot steampunk festivals from what I've seen. You should look into the Whitby Festival in England too.

The south has less festivals the most are in NRW or Rheinland-Pfalz, the place you were.

The two southern states in Germany are a lot more traditional and rural and festivals like such are having a hard time getting accepted. We will have to travel a few hours. His workmate and workmates friends are into it too I was told so I may attach myself to them to get there in a group.

Thank you for the England Whitby hint, I will look into it. Flights to England are relative cheap and fast, if I enjoy the first festival I consider about visiting that one. But I like Industrial Age and dig the combination to Victorian Age with a mix of crazy / fantasy. First time in my life I would wear one of these hip baskets whose name escapes me.

I think a member here, Nyiah -hope I spoke it correct- is also into similar fashion, according to her avatar.

BTW it's always nice to find people that have spent time here, I know a few US kids from local US base too, no contact anymore since ways parted but I am familiar with the dynamics and men having kids with local women or even marry them.

Oh, just the usual fentanyl and THC edibles. If any of the parents get hysterical I'll give em a handful of Xanax to calm their nerves.

You know.. out of the goodness of my heart.

Yeah, the folding blades and Switzer pocket knives were not received well so I switched to candy like the normal people, to blend in.

Yes, the areas I lived in were fun for festivals and I was so fortunate to have experienced the culture.

I think practically every military child lived in Germany at some point between 1970 and 1993ish. Lol. The US had so many bases it was difficult not to be stationed at at one of them. I think the bases were much more a part of the local community as well back then than they seem to be now. I lived in areas that the next street over were German housing even if my housing was considered military housing. Now it seems so much is clustered behind gates.

I miss living in Europe because of the cheap quick flights everywhere. Whitby is always fun because they get into the whole Dracula thing. I've also lived in England and love customers so.... Lol.

Hip baskets? Do you mean Pannier or maybe Bustle?

I think it's called a crinoline! At least that's what I took out of the book I read and figured it must be one of these hip baskets made from fishbone or wires.

It's great way to hide all the stuff I try to use to animate my dress.
