our main problem getting through this winter unscathed is our political and media class

The authors write that such a scenario would be comparable to medieval scholars being handed a textbook on nuclear weapon design — which would be useless in the absence of an understanding of nuclear physics.

One of the scenarios outlined sees nations aim to gain a communication and information monopoly with any alien intelligence. This would almost certainly lead to international conflict with other nations fearing those in contact with the extraterrestrials could then gain and harness alien technology to subjugate other nations.
My take on this is that a peaceful, advanced alien race would have studied us before making contact and be aware of the 'biblical' implications of favoring one over the other would create massive conflict.
Humans are divided an in competition with each other.
I suspect the article is punting the One World Government by leading the reader to arrive at that conclusion for himself which oddly hasn't happened so far on this thread.
Humans are too agenda driven and motivated by dark money interest groups to select a competent and well intended group to represent us in contact.
Our leaders can only fail us as they do everyday on the most basic of policies.
ETA: Scientists themselves aren't really much better seeing how they jump on grants for useless studies and their track record with the China virus and subsequent vaccines.

When we learn to think of our world as a society instead of a collection of tribes destined to assert ourselves as the dominant cultural influence, we will have taken the first step toward a federation consultation. Until then we have no hope except what we make by our isolated and primitive terrestrial means.

A refresher……
……”Politics (from Greek: Πολιτικά, politiká, 'affairs of the cities') is the set of activities that are associated with making decisions in groups, or other forms of power relations among individuals, such as the distribution of resources or status.”……..
……”Politics makes strange bedfellows is a common phrase used to describe odd or unexpected alliances or agreements caused by a shared political interest.”……
I got to think that Aliens would have their form of politics, but perhaps they are aligned with one or more of earth’s countries form of politics much like their own. The question then is which country(s) politics would they associate the most with?
I would say…..the country(s) that have the most sightings.

There is, however, a group of thinkers that has that covered; all elite and government officials are alien lizards and in cahoots with the Galctic Overlord.
If even some of the stories are credible, at least some of them don't sound benevolent at all. Wasn't it Travis Walton that said he was kept in a room that had piles of used human clothing for instance

I haven't read many accounts so not sure either, I kinda don't need to read other people's ; )
I'l draw an analogy though.
We don't let elementary school kids have school excursions at biological reserch facilities and hospitals for a very good reason.
I also have a tentative theory that in order to endure some encounters, there is an element of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) involved.
Not that the abductee has original psychologically problems, rather a DID alter is created through induced trauma. It is then the alter that primarily interacts with the "alien" or whatever.
We don't have to go down the MK* route when considering induced DID and constructed alters as a psychological tool. DID could be a practical way of controling what is remembered of the encounter for example. Alters can be programmed for safety reasons too.
I guess we want to think in terms of benevolent and malevolent - good and evil. Personally I doubt "they" are either.
sounds like you have had encounter(s) if my deductive powers are working correctly.
Do you have a thread or post on these here on ATS?
