Something to consider here. With women allowed combat roles in today’s volunteer military, it would be only fair to also draft 18 year old females. Equal rights and all that stuff.

Maybe we should be worried about our granddaughters this time around. Why should it only be males?

Legal right? No - moral right or obligation? , yes. Thankfully my grandson has enough respect that he wouldn't tell me to go to hell. And I have enough respect to respect his choices. But he will know how I feel about. Weather my influence has an impact or not will be up to him. But I dam sure won't encourage it, and I will have many conversations about it before it becomes a reality.

History repeats itself. The draft has happened before. Maybe your angry because your child put herself in harms way without consulting you?. Kind of sad really, that she would make such a life decision, without seeking the wisdom of her father. War is upon us, I pray the military will prepare her for whatever lays ahead.

I was actually quite happy with her decision. She became an Arabic linguist during 9/11 and helped take down the terrorist cabal.

If a person is drafted.....would it be his choice/decision?

Did you forget "draft dodging" was part of the issue here? A person drafted has a choice to comply--or not. There are a number of choices here. If saving your skin is the main issue, join the Navy or the Space Force. It's unlikely you will come into harms way there. If you're keen on making a political statement against capitalism and all that, leave the country. I hear Russia is in desperate need of troops to fight the dastardly Ukranians trying to take over Russian lands.

I worry about this way too much. My son is eleven. Who knows what the world will be like when he's 18, but I doubt much better. Maybe the draft won't happen? Trying to remain optimistic

It is an honor to serve your nation, placing your life on the line for the freedom that we should represent.

I come from a long line of men that have serve their country in war and in peace.

Alas, I have asked my sons not to join.

My brother who is like a rear admiral or poop-deck swabbie in the Navy has also asked his children not to join.

I see that you've never had the honor to serve.

I don't think the next major war will be fought in the same manner as the previous ones.

Think of the cost to train, cloth, arm, transport and feed the average soldier.

Logistics will win the next big conflict.

Boots on the ground won't be as in demand as much as the need to restock armaments and resources.

I'd imagine high demand for factory workers, welders, engineers, scientists, etc.

It will be a war of attrition not manpower, the side with the most resources will win and we'll need as many people replenishing those resources to maintain the edge.

Don't forget you gotta rub the soot in just to make sure and don't worry about washing all the chemicals off your hands before eating. That's a waste of the few minutes you have to eat. May as well not even sit down.

A little bit of information that NONE of you ever address, America spends hundreds of millions and men's and women's lives on US defence and NEVER EVER has the US homeland ever been attacked for you to "defend" it. And don't sat the Japanese tried to bomb the mainland with balloons.

The wars you have all been fighting is for foreign American influence around the world. The US did have, in WW2, ships sunk off the Eastern seaboard but no land invasion, no cities bombed.

Oh, I forgot, an invasion of Texas by Santa Anna.

Just gonna act like pearl harbor and 9/11 (dependingnon where you stand) never happened huh?

Or the revolutionary war?

Stop being disingenuous, You know what I mean. For a start 911 was a terrorist attack and not an invasion. Pearl harbour was not an attack/invasion of main land US. The US has never had to fight and defend anyone on mainland US.

If anything like that ever happens damn right I'm going to evade getting pulled into the war to fight for the government. If those things are happening it's because the government failed to prevent it from happening and nature should take it's course. I'm not protecting a corrupt government that treats its own people like crap and uses them for their own interests.

The only time I'm ever going to take up arms against abother human being ever again is if they come for me or my loved ones personally. You can't protect them or be there for them when you're hundreds or thousands of miles away.

I lost more family and friends here in the US to crime and other things in the years I was in the military than I did when I was out, and I never got to be with them and in some of the cases there was a high chance that I could have stopped certain things from happening that caused the deaths of a good number of them.

So yeah, screw being sent over to other countries to bomb and kill people who otherwise would never have had the chance to kill me or my loved ones even if they felt the inclination to kill "Americans" but I get it. It's noble to destabilise other countries, "spread democracy," and protect oil fields and plants.

Things change, countries change, lines on the map change. It's literally history. If you can't adapt and resort to killing because you fear change then that's on you.

I will always be against that.

The Democrats can tell you how to do it...Bill Clinton, Obama, Biden. And then Hunter and John Kerry can tell how to lie, cheat, do drugs and get out...

We have sent enough blood and treasure to other people's wars. While the war in Ukraine is unjust, I don't believe we should be there. But, the current leadership is leading us down the primrose path. Both sides are escalating.

One of my son's decided he wanted to be Rambo and joined the Army before the Gulf War was on the horizon. He served two tours there with a premier combat unit.

He came home mentally and physically injured. Though he has been out roughly 15 years, he will never be able to have a normal life and enjoy what he had hoped to do. (The VA doctors made things much worse. We ultimately got help for him in the civilian sector.)

My youngest son intended to join after high school. He was incredibly fit having been a good offensive lineman through high school. I asked to stay home and not join the Army. He tried to enlist. He was too big to join. (Not fat, just too big physically) . Thank goodness!

My daughter was also an accomplished athlete and very smart. At one point she considered enlisting. As a very accomplished EE, she was and is in demand for her skills. Thank goodness she reconsidered.

Every generation is my family has served since my great grandfather arrived on a ship from Europe in the late 1800s. I have uncles that I was never able to meet. I have friends that I never saw again after we left high school in the 60s.

Other people's wars....
