The storm was closing in fast. Dave could hear the thunder.

Dave was back out at Lightning Ridge fossicking for black opal. Two weeks previous he found the largest stone he’d ever seen and it was worth a fortune, $24,000.

He was working franticly now, possessed, trying to beat the weather.

Suddenly Dave stopped, he’d glimpsed something he recognised from two weeks ago.

“No” he blurted out “it couldn’t possibly ….”

As he bent over to brush the dust aside, right then Dave felt the hair on the back of his neck standing like a lightning rod to the sky.

The End.

Good Luck in the Contest!

I'm a former miner and anything related to geology and mining grabs my attention. (And I happen to own an 11 carat piece of Lightning Ridge opal too).

Thanks Johnny.

I'm not vegetarian and am not familiar with their units of measurement, but I'm sure it's big.
